Njåtun the podium in the allround after shock win – I do not quite understand what … – VG

Ida Njåtun (24) outright crushed the rest of the world elite of 1500 meters below the allround Calgary and put Norwegian record. Fourth Place at 5000 feet held to bronze overall.

– It is absolutely insane. I never imagined it beforehand. I do not quite understand what has happened. I have felt good the last time, but in that there has been a bit troublesome season, I did not think the top level mine was so good that podium, says Njåtun said.

On 5000 is Sunday evening smashed her own best quotation with more than five seconds.

She went into the time 7:04, the fourth fastest on the last distance in pairs with Heather Richardson. The American girl cracked and only managed 7.20,27. It secured Njåtun offers an unrivaled sensational bronze medal in the allround in Calgary.

The medal is the first Norwegian Allround Championships on the women’s side since Bjørg Eva Jensen in 1980.

– I had not thought medal before the race. The only thing I thought of was that I would do my best race and set a good personal record, says Njåtun.

Czech Martina Sáblíková took gold 1.57 seconds ahead of Dutch Ireen Wüst.

– Needed rally

Earlier Sunday night was no near to chastise Njåtun at 1500 meters in the allround. She flew into the time 1.52,71, Norwegian record and secured victory with simultaneous whole 1.52 seconds down to the next athlete on the list, American Heather Richardson. So she took her to tears.

– It is my life’s race. I felt good and thought I would go well, but that it would hold the top and that I should lower the Norwegian record by nearly a half second, was absolutely incredible, says Njåtun said.

Njåtuns best location World Cup is a second place at just 1500 meters from Berlin in 2010. This season she has not yet gained full flap and struggling with illness in EM in January she was only sixth.

– The podium position for several years since was insanely big. Since I have easy bit to get back there. There has been little heavy when I have seen time and again that it has not gone, but now I have finally taken again. VM allround are much higher than a single race in the World Cup. It’s the biggest I’ve done, she said.

Picking dad

On 1500 is under World Single Distances Championships in February she ended in seventh place. When she was two seconds behind Richardson and three seconds behind Wüst. Today she got in other words a solid revenge.

And although Njåtun are away from home against Richardson, she has his family in the stands. Dad Brett says on the phone from Canada that they are about 100 Norwegians present, and that it was euphoric mood in the stands when they realized what was about to happen.

– I saw at once that this came to be a knalløp. She got up steam from the start and dared to give everything in the first round. She is so good when she hits, and then it’s amazing to watch, says Ståle Njåtun VG.

– When she went in goal came many tears and worse. There are so many downs between highs and then apply it to really take care of these moments, continuing a stirred dad on the phone.

It was not anyone Njåtun went against. Richardson and Ireen Wüst of the Netherlands came at the positions that followed, over one and a half seconds behind the Norwegian girl, and both are best in the world at 1,500 meters.

– There was a superløp. Absolutely stunning good. Brilliant …

Roses team officials

Dad Brett, who is himself skating coach of Asker, struggling to put words their feelings not long after the finish.

– She has had a very good introduction to the championship and we saw last week that she was going to go fast on ice here when she took Norwegian record of 1,000 meters (time: 1.15,07). Today she sat speed from the start, and it was the key. Now I’m just very proud, and it is such moments as this one remembers, says Brett, while he would like to commend the team staff.

– We know what bet Sondre (Skarli , skating coach) and the rest of the team put down. They get a lot with few resources, and it is just awesome, he said.
