Proposes stricter penalties for football violence – Fædrelandsvennen

On Wednesday evening announced Sports Minister Stavros Derekas that weekend matches in the top league will be played as scheduled, but that they all should go without audience.

– We had today a long discussion with football representatives and I can tell that we now have guidelines for dealing with violence incidents. The government’s decision is that the league matches of the weekend will be played for closed ports. We are going to look at the issue again next week, said Kontonis.

– If it happens negative events, we will stop the series immediately. We can also react with heavy fines and points penalty.

Series game in the Greek Super League was postponed one week due to the noise that arose during the Athens derby between Panathinaikos and Olympiakos last weekend. Omar Elabdellaoui and Olympiakos lost the match 1-2, but it was the fans’ behavior that stood in the center after the match.

A flare hit Olympiakos player Pajtim Kasami shoulder and a chair was thrown against coach Vitor Pereira. Then took around 50 Panathinaikos supporters into the pitch. (© NTB)
