Jo Inge Berget experiencing great success with Malmo and can Thursday get their “real” national team debut. 24-year-old says he grew in adversity in Cardiff and Celtic.

– Chances to get to the Premier League will not often, so those must be taken. Training Everyday there is a different, and I got to experience what it’s like. Things did not go as they should on the pitch, but when you learn of it too, and grow on it. I do not regret at all that I took the chance, he said.

For a player who turn 25 next week Berget experienced a lot in his football career, both success and hardship. At age 17 he found himself in Udinese, where he never got to play in the first team. Rental periods in Lyn and Strømsgodset followed by a transition to Molde got his career on track again, and then came the Premier League chance.

He almost did not play in Cardiff (under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer), and there was little games as well when he was leased to Celtic (under Ronny Deila). Not until he fell under Åge Hareide’s wings in Malmo, loosened it.

– The big difference is that I have played games. Last season was almost no time, now I play fast and get to show what I can do, he said.

Berget think he could have had success in the United Kingdom if he had gained more confidence.

– It’s hard to say, but it’s hard to show what you can when it becomes 11 minutes in half a year. In Celtic got a few more chances, but I felt that I could have done better there if I had been playing more. At the same time that you have to take the chances you get and I did maybe not good enough.

He was very important when Malmo took to the Champions League at the expense of Celtic and now he’s inside squad that will compete for vital Championship points.

– I’m an offensive player, and I hope to contribute to creating chances and goals. We must wait and see if I get to play, and if so how, but it’s just taking the confidence of the club team and try to do the same here, he said.

On properly

coaching staff have repeatedly cited Bergets qualities when he talks about how the game was in Bulgaria may be attacked. He once thought behind the outlet of Malmö player.

– There I expect that he has, and like everyone else in the squad, I want to play and show what I can do. If I get the chance, I’m ready to deliver, says Berget.
