AFTER 80 DAYS in silence suddenly coaching staff in the public and invited selected media to a well prepared intervjudag at Ullevaal Stadium on Wednesday afternoon. The day before (Tuesday) published NFF and UMC (Ullevaal Media Center) a 20 minute video in which national coach Høgmo and elite football manager Nils Johan Semb provides answers to why things happened as they did in 2015. The first (the opportunity to interview Høgmo on the basis of the evaluation was done before Christmas) was high time.
the second (video) can be interpreted as a (poor) attempt to create a kind of evaluative precedent before the media were allowed to take with their critical issues.
I KNOW nOT how dark it is in an oats sack, but even near dimly minus may not have been in the bag this process was completed. Is it at all light to make out in an evaluation process as thorough as the one we are outlined, then one would think that at least the gravest mistakes would be addressed. Not to say pointed out. For then, not least in honesty and selvransakelsens name, to float to the surface with an improvement to strive for.
But, no time.
Even 0-1 and 1- 2 Hungary – actual exam and battles that really defines coaching staff the two first years as national coach – had no errors.
only natural explanations.
– WE HAVE BEEN merciless towards ourselves in the evaluation, says top football manager Nils Johan Semb in the video published on Fotball.no. And then ringing cell phone to national team’s media boss Svein Graff and everyone having fun, smiling and enjoying themselves. While the answers they convey – why it went as it went with Norwegian football flagship of disaster outlet in Zagreb (1-5 Croatia away in March) to the even more criticizing team selection in Budapest – is the opposite.
The is namely to cry off.
fOR iT’S not just counting chances and corners and on top of the lead ball possession over two games to the table that good arguments that it was chance that was not our side in November. If we had used the same argument when we were 17 minutes away from a direct EM place in Rome (led 1-0 over Italy), we should namely Behind 0-5, so inferior we were. How wrong is it (just) comparing games and statistics.
HAD BEEN NORWAY good we had namely beaten Hungary and gone to EM. But we are not there. We are actually quite fragile. We have too few good players. And because we are fragile and without sufficient competitiveness, we lack the stability that is needed to recreate the good performance that comes in between.
When the coach on top of everything suddenly thinking far outside the box and falls for a momento no then come, well, then it goes fast as it went.
AND iT’S this responsibility Høgmo must take. It is (also) his job. He must talk about what was done without fear of saying something wrong or fear of blame themselves and lose face. Had his work been in danger he would have lost it in November. But it is not there, he sits securely.
Is there something that is starting to slip as it is the credibility of his.
THE REASON FOR THE is that the rhetoric does not match the fact. There is not much good at not going to the European Championships as one of 24 teams. And it is not good to create 15 chances and over 20 corners against Hungary when you only score one goal, the way a consolation goal at 0-2 (0-3 on aggregate) when the others had already begun the celebration. There are reasons we have not been answered. Which means that time begins to be ripe for the NFF and Høgmo understand people’s disappointment has entered the curse, and that “five full house at Ullevaal” did not reflect the mood on the streets.
Perhaps the phone in your pocket to Graff called for a reason.
It gave at least the message that people need to sharpen up.
