(Dagbladet): Martin Johnsrud Sundby was the biggest favorite for today femmil at Holmenkollen – and no one managed to get the sovereign skier today.
– It’s touching. There has been much work. It’s almost so I have to apologize to his wife on the air, because I’ve been so concentrated before it over here, said Sundby to NRK after coming out of the goal.
Sundby started during tough by setting the standard high speed and pace, and the only thing that really threatened Oslo man was Niklas Dyrhaug.
the two followed each other closely, and after Didrik Tønseth and Vyleghzhanin tumbled by, it appeared that Dyrhaug would fight Sundby all the way.
Sundby has been on the podium in the last four (!) femmilene in Holmenkollen, but has not managed to be first in goal – until today.
– It took me five years. It has refused completely. I’m never sure until I cross the red line either. This is my court. I went my first race here when I was nine years old. On two of the rounds I got goosebumps when I orka thinking. I am so touched by going here, said Sundby NRK.
Sundby bowed to the audience 50 meters before he went in goal, and after having crossed the finish line, he celebrated by kissing the snow.
Niklas Dyrhaug finished second, 18.8 seconds behind. Vyleghzhaning number three, Tønseth number four.
Petter Northug finally came in at number six, after asking switched Francesco De Fabiani from Italy. Sjur Røthe two seconds behind tenth place.
