Now Weng Canada-favorite – Dagsavisen

By Egil Saether

Canmore: Johaug was soaring favorite in advance and led recipe wise after 1.9 km of the 10 km long individual friteknikkøvelsen.

At the finish she was sixth, beaten by 40 seconds of ingvild flugstad østberg. Weng was also far ahead of her.

Before Saturday’s pursuit, she must catch up 30 seconds on said Weng. Moreover, she must go from well before normally there Weng is the best final opportunity of the two.

Johaug could not remember the last time she was beaten so hard on an individual start.

There has certainly happened this year.

– I do not know last it happened. There was complete stop today. It was acid and it went heavily throughout. But that’s how it is. It has gone well all the way after the Tour de Ski, and I’ve won almost all of the race distance I have set up. It takes out a lot and there is a small margin separates from being at the top and not at the top. It varies slightly. It has been a long season, and in height so that here are struggling it, said Johaug.

Custom sake

Johaug had nothing excuses to come by. She believed that both skis and equipment work.

– I do not blame anyone today. There was a heavy body. It’s a long time since I have felt so. At the start of the tour I felt in great shape, and suddenly turns it. It’s such elite sport is. There is nothing to do with anything.

While it went much better for Therese Johaug at the start of the tour than she had thought. She had los on overall victory all the way, but then it stopped slightly up on the last two distances.

Just the two distances, where she was the biggest favorite of all.

– I thought that I should do well at the end. Heidi has 30 seconds on me Saturday and it gets hard. She will have to see themselves as the biggest favorite. It is clear that they are disappointed when they see themselves as someone who can fight for victory. Today missed me and went bad. There is nothing to do with. I must take the first place I have and bite together everything I have.

Surprised chief

The national team coach Egil Kristiansen had never thought it would end this way during Friday’s race. Like everyone else he believed Johaug would win. There is what has been the norm throughout the season.

– I do not remember the last time that she has been taken again by 40 seconds, but it may have been the start of last season when Marit (Bjorgen) was good. This was not entirely expected, but that’s what happens. Therese is just like all of us. She’s just flesh and blood, she also. Nobody’s machines. It can happen to her, as with all of us that she gets a bad day, said Kristiansen.

– Can it turn?

– Yes. We have seen before that it can turn around overnight. (© NTB)
