Experts training advice: Forget the weight and have a greater focus on lifestyle – Aftenposten

To get you easily fit again after the summer holidays.

July is ending and throughout the country returns from people vacation to everyday life. They also return to everyday training and training centers.

– After each holiday, we notice demand. It starts now on Monday, says Norway boss in Bet Elixia, Bjorn Maaseide.

It is not only old members coming back from vacation. New members flock to.

– January, February, August and September are the four busiest months for us. When people take control and get started with training again, telling Maaseide.

The rest of your life

Trine Moholdt researcher and postdoctoral at NTNU and leader of the research group Exercise, Cardiometabolic Health and Reproduction. She advises those starting with training to look at it as the beginning of a new lifestyle.

– You may want to go in with the idea that “here I will do the rest of your life.” Then it may be smart to start a little careful to get it as part of everyday life. But try also to find something you think is fun to drive with, she advises.

– How should one start?

– My impression is that many people start to lose weight and look better. Then one should just move. Much. But for pure health benefits, a walk perfectly fine for most people. Preferably in slopes to give up the intensity. Strength training is also good and there keep it with your own body weight at first, says Moholdt.

Make intensity

When you start again with the training, tempts it to go on with the zeal and clamoring to get results as quickly as possible. But Martin Norum, personal trainer, author and speaker, believes a reasonable intensity at the start will help you keep your training up to scratch.

– What tends to happen is that you move a little harsh and being overzealous. It is typical when starting up again and will impress themselves and others. But it’s probably more impressive in 20 years to look back on a regular good exercise, but to think back on all the times you restarted on another brief workout wave, ask Norum.

He also points out that it is important to have realistic and reasonable expectations of their training, and not to open in the autumn with the aim to find a “magical formula for results.”

– There is not much else to do than actually take the long risen above “dørstokkmilen” and initiate. Not too hard or brutal, but only to start with something. Absolutely everything is better than nothing, but if you have some goals that are a little more hairy than the average, it is not enough to “just” be active. Then exercise far greater extent systematized.

Forget the weight

While the influx and training to lose is great in August and September, there are some who are struggling to make the training permanently. So how do you motivated? Both experts have the following advice: Forget the weight and focus more on lifestyle.

– If the focus is exclusively on weight, one may be unnecessarily strict with themselves. It increases not just the chance to get a permanent change, says Norum.

He proposes instead to focus on goals in life.

– Have rather focus on things like “I’m going try to eat more protein rich at every meal, “” I’ll be experimenting and testing new healthy recipes that are quick to make, “and” I’ll try to take better care of myself because it’s healthy for me, “says Norum.
