Celebrity Doctor about Kasiryes Meldonium-explanatory: – Not trustworthy – Dagbladet.no

(Dagbladet): This afternoon it became known that the Norwegian Olympic hoped Ruth Kasirye (33) have tested positive for heart medicine Meldonium.

Weight lifter tested positive for the ban the drug in January. She explains in the fact that she received medication during treatment of malaria in native country Uganda in late December / January.

That explanation does not buy heart doctor Wasim Zahid. He wrote this on Twitter tonight:

That Ruth Kasirye ingested Meldonium during malaria treatment does not appear very credible. It is a heart medicine is not used against malaria , “writes Zahid, known from NRK program” What’s wrong with you? “.

Look no connection

Dagbladet deepens he:

– Malaria is a parasitic disease that is transmitted through mosquito bites. Treatment of malaria is to treat the infection, he said.

– As with most other Norwegian doctors I do not know so well to Meldonium, but after what I read there is a heart medicine used against narrow arteries associated with cardiovascular disease. I can not see any immediate connection between malaria treatment and cardiac care.

Zahid stressed that he wants to take a subject that he knows neither Kasiryes health or treatment.

– could she have gotten Meldonium for anything other than the malaria disease?

– One can imagine that there has occurred a complication and the doctor felt it was right then and there, but immediately does not see this as a normal type of treatment, he said.

– Make Kasiryes explanation you suspicious?

– as a doctor should be careful to remotely diagnose and speculate, but in this case I think like many others, that the explanation does not seem very likely.

– not applicable

Ruth Kasirye lawyer Morten Justad Johnsen answer this Zahid statements:

– We are not aware if she got Meldonium for malaria or other pain she had, but she got the words associated with the treatment in Uganda, he says to Dagbladet.

– Our case goes on her appearance after Meldonium came on ban list. It is the time from it was banned until she was tested and his guard her for the time we concentrate on. The whole issue we’re working on is whether she acted in such a way that she can get an exemption. The reason why she got Meldonium is therefore not relevant to whether the conditions are met for medical exemptions, he added.

Which possibly makes Kasiryes matter worse is that she tested positive for Meldonium also last fall, but then stood no medication on WADA’s ban list.

malaria treatment in 2015

Weight lifter claims that she last ingested substance related to malaria treatment after visiting the home country, and she says that she never knowingly taken Meldonium for performance-enhancing effect.

chief Medical Officer in Anti-Doping Norway, Per Wiik Johansen says that Meldonium primarily is a heart medicine, but he knows that the drug has been used in other contexts.

– We know Meldonium in all Primarily as a heart medicine. I know it has been used for some different kinds of other disorders, including neurological disorders and lung disorders, but I do not know if it has any effect associated with treatment of malaria, he says to Dagbladet.

Calls for studies

Ruth Kasirye claims that she was treated with Meldonium until January 18. It was only one week later she tested positive. Wiik Johansen know however not to the half time of the banned substance.

– The half-life is enough for only a few hours, but we do not know how long it can sit traces of this in the body. We need to get some studies on this before we can say anything more certain, he said.

Meldonium came on WADA ban list on 1 January this year, but it was on the so-called monitoring list in 2015 for the WADA could form a picture of the use in sport.

of those who tested positive for Meldonium last year, but thus escaped punishment came about 70 percent of the athletes from strength sports.

– very sorry

Ruth Kasirye was very upset when she met the press at the office of his lawyer in Oslo tonight.

– I have taken a positive doping test, which I got through a medical treatment in December and January. I am very sorry for that, and on behalf of my weightlifter friends. I hope it does not become a burden on them. This is my fault and my responsibility. I have no one to blame. I should informed my closest that I was under consideration. I’ll take the consequences of my actions, she said.

– Do you understand that some may believe you’d kept it a secret?

– I was acutely ill. I have had the same treatment previously. I have been tested and it has not been a problem before. That’s my problem and my responsibility to speak up. I should checked what I put in me. It is the athletes’ responsibility, says Ruth Kasirye.

– This is not a deliberate action on my part. This has happened because I went through a medical treatment. I have to stand for this. I made a mistake and did not close. That should I have done, she adds.
