A dream hits and one assists signed Samir Nasri (27) turned despair to Europe bliss for Manchester City.
ROMA – MANCHESTER CITY 0-2
“Everyone” thought Manchester City was heading towards a new Europe-roars. But two straight victories salvaged the English champions in the Champions League. Wednesday night they won 2-0 in key match away against Rome.
The main hero of them all: Frenchman Samir Nasri, perhaps struck when it mattered most.
First with a gem of a goal as the hour was played.
And five minutes before the end he assisted Pablo Zabaleta 2-0 goal.
– Now I have it very good. It was a promotion that is going to be remembered. It was a miracle, stated Nasri according Bones Sports.
– Samir saved the evening with an incredible goal, confirmed goalkeeper Joe Hart.
When Sky Sports asked Nasri if it were his main goals in his career, the Frenchman replied:
– I do not know. Efforts for the team was incredible. But it was important for me to score as it has taken some time for me to come back after surgery. With Yaya (Toure) and Kun (Aguero) out, it was important for us to stand together as a team. And so we did.
City was on, Rome was forwarded to the Europa League, and it had very few thought for just a few weeks ago.
After four matches in the Champions League- group E stood City with poor two points.
But the somewhat lucky home victory against Bayern Munich two weeks ago and three points “group finals” against Roma tonight.
City lacked the stars
Manchester City asked without stars Sergio Aguero, Yaya Toure, Vincent Kompany and David Silva in the starting at the Stadio Olimpico. A great bouquet of very good players out in pursuit of getting continue in the grandest company in European football.
Initially was “easy”: For the reigning English champions were not 0-0 away from home well enough advancement to eighth Finals Champions League. They had to win. They had to score. But they appeared very cautious in pursuit of one goal.
Rome was further on 0-0, they had control, they created the biggest farlighetene in an intense first place.
Gervinho was very active on the hosts’ counterattack chances and could scored once and twice. City had some misses. But they appeared harmless.
Europe nightmare
City had to take greater chances to avoid a new Europe-breaker. The light blue have won the Premier League two of the last three seasons.
But Europe-participation have resembled a curse:
2013/14: Number two in the group stage of the Champions League, but were knocked out by Barcelona in semi final.
2012/13: Last in the group stage of the Champions League with three losses and three draws.
2011/12: Number three in the group stage of the Champions League and was allowed to continue European participation in the Europa League. Where they were knocked out by Sporting Lisbon in the quarterfinals.
2010/11: Won the group stage of the Europa League, but knocked out of cheetahs in semi final.
It was make or break in Rome.
And after one hour of play in the Eternal City came goal almost out of nothing.
Nasris masterpiece
Samir Nasri cut in from the left. The Frenchman got fight hits from 18 meters, the ball went through the post and the post.
One goal turned upside down all assumptions. Rome had now have two goals to advance. The teams drew 1-1 in the first meeting in Manchester. And with a 1-1 result at the Stadio Olimpico would teams stand equally spaced, but City advance on better goal.
Good luck Treffet from Samir Nasri made full control was turned to despair in seconds for the hosts.
Rome had giant opportunities by both Konstantinos Manolas and Mattia Destro, but the hosts’ offensive stalled and Manchester City had full control. Both victory and second place in group E.
Five minutes before the end feud Pablo Zabaleta all doubts when he sent a ball from Samir Nasri goal.
Rome were sent out Europa League. Manchester City will play eighth Round of the Champions League in February and March.
