Brilliantly Ulsrudtok Norway tilVM finale – NRK

Canada’s curling big heavyweights, while Norway is the reigning world champions. And it was really a thriller. Norway hit several rocks with just a centimeter margin in between.

– We had margins with us a few times. No one had any particular advantage at any time, says Thomas Ulsrud VM-organizer.

Norway had to fight hard to equalize towards the end. In the important seventh and ninth rounds, they delivered some real top stones, not least from captain Ulsrudvann. In both halves he decided with hairline last stones which secured two points.

Canada had the opportunity to ensure victory when Pat Simmons with the last stone tried to hijack two points, but the home nation had to settle one point. Thus, it was clear to an eleventh place.

Norway had last stone in extra time. Ulsrudvann kept nerves under control and ensured the end of one point Norway needed to ensure victory 7-6.

– We had so many chances. There was the possibility the struggle, sighed Canada ships Pat Simmons.

Ulsrudvann ended with impressive 91 percent accuracy.

– I had to put a really decisive stone in the seventh round . It was not favorite my situation, but I managed it, says Ulsrudvann.



Can meet Canada again

Because of the somewhat unorthodox playoff system in curling championships Norway is not necessarily rid Canada. Pat Simmons and the rest of the star team gets namely chance finalist in a new semifinal, this time against the winner of the showdown between third and fourth place.

They face Sweden or Switzerland on Saturday. The winner meets Ulsrudvann, Havard Vad Pettersson, Christoffer Svae and Torger Nergaard on Sunday.
