LILLEHAMMER (Dagbladet): Kenneth Gangnes (26) shocked hop world when he won the World Cup race in Lillehammer Sunday. It was his greatest triumph in the ski jump, and extra impressive it becomes when he has been through two knee injuries – the same knee.
The last time he destroyed ligament was in Hinzenbach in Austria in 2013. Afterwards, he was placed on the operating table in Innsbruck.
Unfortunately for Gangnes not cover insurance to Norwegian Ski entire operation. He therefore had to pony up its own funds – and there was no cheap solution.
– I will not talk about, says Gangnes Dagbladet.
Interesting questions
The injuries are history, and would jumper from Kolbu comrades only know the “crazy feeling” it was to rise to the top of the podium. On the next places followed Slovenian Peter Prevc and Johann André Forfang.
But it happened in 2013 makes interesting questions about insurance schemes to the Norwegian Ski Federation. After that Dagbladet understands it was coach Alexander Stöckl who came up with an operational solution in Austria.
– Call it an alternate treatment. It was the Austrian way of doing it. Alex thought it was a good solution, says sports director Clas Brede Braathen told Dagbladet.
– Why did not cover FIS bill?
– Because the insurance applies to the Norwegian system. Kenneth had not had the quite big experience with this. Therefore, we talked about the possibility of Austria. Alex checked this and presented it for Kenneth and his father. They jumped at the chance. But this led to the bill for them was more expensive than usual.
Dialog
Bråthen continues:
– In practice we have insurance for athletes. But this is in relation to the Norwegian system.
– but should not FIS expenses covered?
– We have had a dialogue about the damage long. We will do what we can to influence the system we are in. But we’re out and run if we are to take the cost of this kind of treatment. We have tried to help. But the financial burden is the Kenneth and family who have taken. Today it paid off the well.
85 000 million
For the victory Sunday got Gangnes 85,000 million in prize from the International Ski Federation FIS. Overall this season, he has jumped into 175 000 kroner. Saturday he was second, only beaten by 0.1 points of German Severin Freund. Sunday was 26-year-old – born in Gjovik – best of all.
– I completely wordless, he says – and thank your mom and dad.
– How close were you give yourself when the damage stood at its worst?
– I was closer to giving me than what people think. But I have no regrets today . I am almost completely empty. It’s just insane, a boy’s dream come true.
Content trainer

– Gangnes has been through a rough period. I can only take off my hat and say: “A fantastic achievement.”
