The Norwegian skiers failed to outwit the new Swedish sprint favorite in Planica.
Stina Nilsson (22) went all the way under the women’s sprint ahead of Astrid Uhrenholdt Jacobsen and Heidi Weng.
Second place was uplifting for Uhrenholdt Jacobsen who had to retire from the Tour de Ski after the second leg. Totally exhausted and drained to 28-year-old helped away from the target area.
Ingvild Flugstad Ostberg finished fourth in the finals in Planica behind superior Nilsson.
Only 35 minutes gone skiing
– I’m so happy. I’ve only been skiing in 35 minutes ago Tour de Ski since I was so tired and had little energy. It’s fantastic to win today, says Nilsson in the interview with the International Ski Federation (FIS) after the triumph.
Nilsson takes therefore the lead in the Sprint Cup from Maiken Caspersen Falla as busted already in the prologue. According to NTB’s disease why 25-year-old failed to make a better achievement. Caspersen Falla was in dialogue with a doctor before starting, and she has now decided to go home from Planica.
This is the second time Nilsson wins a sprint races this season. The last time was in Davos when she struck Caspersen Falla and Flugstad Østberg.
Fiaskodag for Messrs
For the Norwegian gentlemen was a heavy day. Only Sondre Fossli Turvoll and Eirik Brandsdal took the pass to the semifinals. There they were third and fourth in the first heat, but the time was not good enough compared to those who came in the next.
Thus, it became a finale
Italian Federico Pellegrino won his fourth straight skate sprint, ahead of the French duo Baptiste Gros and Richard Jouve.
