Henrik Christiansen (18) thinks the Tokyo Olympics in five years. Along the way he won Tuesday Norway’s first World Cup final in long tract since deceased Alexander Dale Oen.
– Rio Olympics next year is really just a sub-goals for Henrik. But perhaps we need to start thinking differently after this, says coach Petter Løvberg VG.
Henrik Christiansen swam into 7.49,70 and Norwegian record of 800 meters at the World Championships experiment in Russian Kazan on Tuesday.
From 24 to 8.
– Henrik had only the 24th best time of the participants. And then he improves with 7.3 seconds and manages to get into the finals – as the youngest. It is huge, says Løvberg.
– Did you honestly believed in World Cup final?
– There was enough in excess of what I had expected. But we dream the always says one of the most successful national team coaches.

Christiansen was fastest in the third heat. In the second last heat was the only one that was faster than him, while in the last heat, there were six. Thus he came to the finals as eighth man.
– Now it’s about to refocus to Wednesday’s finale. I hope it does not become too great pressure against Henrik. But simultaneously he must of course learn how to handle the pressure of expectation.
Best in the experiment were American Connor Jaeger with 7.44,77.
1500 meters better
This weekend swimmer Henrik Christiansen 1500 meters, and the chief believes that 18-year-old is better the longer distance is.
– I think Henrik opportunity for kjempetid at 1,500 meters as well. His challenge is that many are faster than him. He must do so beyond the races. But while he also new Norwegian junior record at 200 meters, so he also becomes faster and faster.
Rio Olympics premature
Løvberg says Christiansen jobs long term, and the Rio Olympics come a little early.
– It’s really too early to talk about medals already in the Olympics next year. But he has a tremendous development.
Cecilie Waage Johannessen was in action at the 200 m freestyle. She won her heat and noted 2.00,67 and ended at 28th-place. If she was taken to the semifinal she must have swum in 1.58,68.
PS: Alexander Dale Oen took gold medal in 100 meters breast in July 2011. He died the following spring.
