Two years ago, Chris Froome completely superior in the first mountain stage, won by over 50 seconds on teammate Richie Porte, was slightly higher than the minutes before a Movistar rider in third place and took a big step toward what would become a superior overall win.
On Tuesday’s tenth stage happened exactly the same.
No one was near Froom heading up to La Pierre-Saint-Martin, and now may soon be fun over almost before it has begun.
– Right now he is “man of the match”, says TV2 bike expert Johan Kaggestad.
– Do it now something besides sports for sure he will not win?
– Yes. He must be sick. He is the world’s best stage rider.
– Froom is decidedly best form
Overall he is now he is almost three minutes ahead the second man, Tejay Van Garderen and straight over three minutes ahead Nairo Quintana third.
The other two of the “big four”, Alberto Contador and Vincenzo Nibali, respectively four and nearly seven minutes behind already.
– When Froom attack 6.4 km from the top, I thought only “now again” … He is completely raw. He is so well prepared, he has trained extensively in height, he is so dedicated to the task, and he’s so intelligent too. He also has the world’s best support network around them, says Kaggestad.
He still will not be involved in the tabloid conclusion that the race is already over. It is the sport all too risky.
– It can not possibly be over when you see how many little things that can turn a whole stage race on his head. You can walk on your face, you can get sick, they’re only halfway through the number of kilometers … But Froom is the one that is decidedly the best shape, and the team that is best and work best is Sky. The other teams have a formidable task ahead of them.
– Can not think of a team that has been stronger
Over or not: performance of Froom and Sky-mates was palpable like the one we saw two years ago.
– It is very similar to what we saw two years ago, and it will not be that surprising if we get the same result now, says bike expert Ole Kristian Stoltenberg.
– Have we ever seen a similar slaughter of favorites so early in the Tour de France?
– I sat and wondered just how perfect this stage was for Sky. It’s very history useless to say that this is the best we’ve ever seen, but it has certainly been someone who has been even tougher, but I can not think of any team here in the move which has been stronger and that got to play to flap so completely. But it looked very in 2013, so they’ve so far done it before …
