Mykjåland sent LSK further in the Champions League – NRK

Lillestrom are ready for the eighth Round of the Champions League after a very thrilling return meeting against the Swiss FC Zurich. Lene Mykjåland was the big hero after extra time in Switzerland.

– It was incredibly delicious. We play a good defensive game, we have good structure, we create chances, but we do not put them before we really need. When we sat Lene Mykjåland open and she put it in the goal I felt that it went way. It was absolutely beautiful. That is what we dreamed of since we won the series last year, so we are extremely happy now, says assistant coach Hege Riise.

The national team coach Roger Finjord was also super happy with the promotion of Lillestrom, who only Norwegian team in the tournament.

– It was absolutely fantastic. That we have a team that is ahead in the Champions League is awesome. Now they get two new games against good opposition, which is perfect towards Olympic qualification for team and club teams, says Finjord.

Had to have extra time

Last year smoke they out of the first round of the Champions League, but this year LSK women had plans about something else entirely. In sixteen Finals against the Swiss Zurich they brought 1-0 lead from the home meet. And until 87 minutes so it also seems to be good enough for advancement.

But when Marit Sandvei miss a tackle gets suddenly Fabienne Humm free passage in front of goal. 1-0 to the Swiss and LSK was only three minutes away from the European recovery they had hoped for. Instead we had romerikingene out in extra time.

Kept away for pressure

extra time was regular, but LSK had Lene Mykjåland on top. Teams player battled off nine minutes into the first extra round, and chipped the ball over goalkeeper and the goal.

– When there was extra time it was unbearably exciting. When Mykåland, who has had a fantastic season, equalized I must admit that I cried

aloud, saying Finjord about his reaction after the decisive goal.

The Swiss were very close to securing penalty shootout minutes before end but LSK held off and secured a 1-1 draw with 2-1 on aggregate.

– It will be exciting on. It’s incredibly fun to play these international matches, and now we get two more. We expect to tension on the draw on Monday, said Riise.

The next round in the Champions League played 11 and 12 November, with the return meeting on 18 and 19 November.
