Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and Manuel Neuer was on Monday nominated for the last three players vying to become the world’s best footballer in 2014.

Portuguese Ronaldo gets the opportunity to defend the title he won last year. It was the second time he received the award, the first time was in 2008. He was heavily involved in the Real Madrid triumph in the Champions League last season where he scored a total of 17 goals.

Argentine Messi has won the award four times, but has in 2014 not won a single title either with Barcelona or Argentina.
The German goalkeeper Neuer has received attention for his brilliant and aggressive goalkeeping past year. Accomplishments have been rewarded with an opportunity to become the best player in the world.
