IAAF withholds doping report from 2011 where every third admitted to having … – Dagbladet.no

The International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) withholds a survey done among top athletes in track and field in 2011, every third admitted to having doped themselves.

The British newspaper Sunday Times has teamed up with the German TV channel ARD / WDR gained access to investigation , which was made out of ten scientists associated with the University of Tubingen.

The German university is highly critical of the IAAF for four years has held back the report and in addition has given scientists muzzled.

– This is not a new issue. This was revealed on German TV in 2013, and those concerns took IAAF off at the time, writes IAAF said in a statement.

Severe interference

– The IAAF that without good reason has delayed publishing, is a serious interference with the right to publish, according to a statement from the German university.

The report was funded by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), which should have been pressured by the IAAF to veto publication, writes Sunday Times.

Rolf Ulrich led the work on the report and explains why the report is never made public.

– That’s because IAAF blocking it. I think they have interests in WADA and they blocked the whole thing, he said.

admitted in an interview

The survey is based on interviews with hundreds of elite athletes, who were interviewed by researchers at the World Championships in Athletics in South -Korea four years ago.

Based on the interviews, the researchers concluded that between 29 and 34 percent of the 1,800 athletes who participated in the World Cup during the previous twelve months had violated doping rules.

– These findings show that doping is remarkably common among elite athletes, and that it largely still is not detected despite the current biological test programs, concluded the researchers.

– The purpose of the survey was to examine the reliability of potential new methods to evaluate the prevalence of doping in sport using a more social scientific approach, writes IAAF.

Blood tests

The report substantiates the revelations Sunday Times and ARD / WDR came with earlier in the month, after getting access to the analyzes of 12,000 blood samples taken from 5,000 athletes.

The two leading doping experts Michael Ashend and Robin Parisottor concluded on the basis of blood samples with that every third athletics medal taken at the World Cup and the Olympics in years 2001 to 2012, were won by athletes with suspicious blood values.

IAAF went hard against the two doping experts calling them naive and ignorant. The report that is now revealed to the International Association of Athletics Federations not comment.

– When it comes to publishing this study continues at discussions with the research team and WADA, said in a statement.
