Just grin Høgmo – we turn Hungary at Ullevaal becomes silk cause Championships in Budapest – Dagbladet.no

23. February 2014 was EM-qualifying which gave us 19 points and much drama pulled in Nice. There and then, with Italy and Croatia as significant tripwires in the group attached the coaching staff and all the rest eyes on third place and next month’s play-offs. And had someone there and then asked if we took Hungary in two games on one of the last four EM slots, would all shouted yes.

Now we are there.

Which means that the flow continues.

BEFORE ITALY-GAME in Rome, I wrote that Norway is in a good place. The team has raised through qualifying, got increasingly more legs to stand on and slowly but surely, although we got a lot of beating in Rome, developed both defensive security and a bit breakthrough force. And 1-2 loss at the Olympic Stadium has not changed it.

My contention is that Norway is still in the zone.

NOW IS NOT our history especially good when it comes to decisive battles of playoffs. Whether we go to Copenhagen in ordinary group games or get the extra chance against teams like that ranked better than us in the play-offs, yes, then we lose. Everytime. But we’re not going to park now, it’s Sweden to be there, and should not we meet great football nations such as Spain (2003) or Czech Republic (2005) either.

We will meet Hungary home and away.

A better opportunity to embellish the sad story does not exist.

The only thing was wrong at this draw is that we are playing at home first. Which in the big picture is insignificant. For Nobody had exchanged Hungary with Ukraine, Sweden or Bosnia and Herzegovina even though we had gotten away game first? So good is therefore this draw. And so broken Norway-Hungary over two fantastic matches in Oslo and Budapest down to two things:

entrance to the settlement, which is the coaching staff responsibilities.

And the rest the players, the actual implementation.

I KNOW NOT who Hungary wanted in this draw. And it is not interesting either. But I know that Hungary is far down after what happened at the group game last two days. Magyars was the EM as best treerlag until it remained only seconds of qualifying.

but everything went wrong for Hungary when Kazakhstan suddenly struck Latvia 1-0 away, Turkey scored 1 -0 on EM Ready Island in 89 minutes and Hungarians even lost 3-4 for tabelljumboen Greece. It was not just bad luck that came and took them on the tenth and final match day. There was a mountain of margins that raged over Hungarian football on 11 and 13 October. And now it suddenly Norway that stands between them and a playoff Hungary need as much as us.

A team we have not lost in five matches during the past 20 years.

RIGHT NOW IS odds on our side. Coaching staff feel it, the Royal Norwegian football people feel it and I think Hungary feel it too. For it is our turn now. You do not have that floating in a pool without a reason. And when we have beaten them at Ullevaal, preferably without conceding a goal, we travel to Budapest and allows risk in attacking play be their problem.

And so we take them from a set piece or counter.

For the team that wins the first game in a European Championship play-off winner almost always standings too – Scotland against Netherlands in 2003 (1-0 and 0-6) are the only exception.

In a historical perspective, it might not be so wrong with a home game first anyway.
