Stöckl about hell to trainer colleague: – My thoughts are with him – Dagbladet.no

GARMISCH-PARTENKIRCHEN (Dagbladet): Austrian Alexander Pointner (44) is regarded by many as the greatest jumps trainer. He trained the Austrian ski jumpers from 2004 to 2014, and cashed medals on a conveyor belt.

But in recent years – and especially the last year – he has gone through a private hell. In November last year tried daughter Nina (17) to take his own life. Afterwards she lay in a coma. One week before Christmas she died.

Pointner and his wife Angela have been open about what happened against media in Austria. Norway’s national coach, Alexander Stöckl (42), knows Pointner well.

– We jumped together. When I was coach of the junior team in Austria, we had good contact, he tells Dagbladet.

– It’s a tough situation. They have lost a daughter. My thoughts are with him and his family.

Four Hills Tournament – A parenthesis

He finds himself in Garmisch-Partenkirchen in Germany. Outside the hotel Mercure Towering most powerful Alps.

Today is the qualification for the second race in the Four Hills Tournament. Serious enough, when it is this that is your job. But compared with Pointner history becomes negligible.

Depression has been in Pointner family. Although he was heavily hit for a couple of years ago.

– There was a period where I barely managed to get out of bed, he told in a radio program.

– It was probably a mixture of the stress of the job and the compassion I had for my son.

In 2012, his son was hit by depression. For three months he lay in hospital. Then Pointner even a victim before the tragedy was perfected – with her daughter Nina’s death.

Impressed

Stöckl is impressed Pointner openness about the situation.

– You heard rumors here and there. But then he came out with this on the radio two years ago. He said he had suffered from depression. I think it was good that he told it. Then you realized that you must do something.

Stöckl continues:

– While there are certainly many who have such problems. It is good if one that is known comes out with it. It may help others in the same situation.

The Austrian ski jumpers took 32 medals in Olympics and World Championships under Pointner. 17 of them were of noble rank, ie gold. Lately, he has been a mentor for the Bulgarian ski jumper Vladimir Zografski. The plan was to be present in connection with the World Cup competition in Engelberg before Christmas. Because of her daughter’s death, this was never the question.

– It is the worst moment in my life, said Pointner to Austrian television this fall. He talked about when he learned that his daughter had tried to take his own life in 2014.

– Finally, I do not play play more. Now people know what has happened.

It emerged that her daughter had been built to pyskiatrisk treatment for six weeks. But nothing indicated that she wanted to do it eventually.

Retrieved at school

She was found by her mother Angela, a volleyball player Pointner married in 1995. They had four children.

She called me to ask if I could pick her up at school, she did not feel well. But she would not talk about it. Later I had to go out for a walk, and she was home alone. That was when she did, her mother says, according Sport24.

His parents never gave up hope:

– I’m convinced that it’s going to go well again . Nothing can make me give up hope. It is hoped that keeps me up, declared Pointner.

17. December was no longer any hope left. Daughter died. Again sits a broken family.

– It’s hard to describe how they are now, says Stöckl set to Dagbladet.
