Jacobsen: – I’m a little different. That’s probably what people like – VG

FALUN / Oslo (AP) There are 2919 days ago Astrid Uhrenholdt Jacobsen (28) went a World Cup relay last. Today, eight years later, she got gold. She believes most others had given up along the way.

Eight years ago went Astrid Uhrenholdt Jacobsen on the relay team that took bronze in Sapporo World Championships. In the same championship, she became world champion in sprint and she took bronze in lagsprinten with Marit Bjoergen. 20 year old Uhrenholdt Jacobsen was on everyone’s lips in 2007.

But it would take the whole 2919 days of breakthrough new gold medal.

– Eight years is a long time, says Uhrenholdt Jacobsen at the press conference.

For VG she elaborates:

– It has been many years and I have experienced a lot. One could say it is too long to wait for gold, but I’ve grown a lot as a person and become a better skiøper. In 2007, I had not had a chance to go such distance races as I do today, says explains Uhrenholdt Jacobsen.

Dare to be different

She believes the focus on the good experiences and development, rather than focus on medals, has got her from gold in 2007 to gold in 2015.
>

– I have not been so focused on medals, gold and silver and bronze, so I stand here today, for most had given up the long ago, says Uhrenholdt Jacobsen VG .

– The interest shows that people back home in Norway indulging this gold, how do you experience it?

– I think that I can be an inspiration to many, because I still have to work and work and trying to be positive and even if things do not necessarily have gone completely rod into constantly responding Uhrenholdt Jacobsen adding:

– I have also been a little different in many contexts. That’s probably what people like. The underdog beats, says Jacobsen.

Sent out Bjoergen clear lead

28- year old was sent off on its five kilometers as number three in the series. Heidi Weng went with a larger group into exchange. Therese Johaug tried to scramble on second leg, but he sent Uhrenholdt Jacobsen out only just over a second before Swedish Maria Rydqvist.

But Oslo girl walked a giant leg and five kilometers later alternated she Marit Bjoergen – almost 18 seconds ahead of Finland and Sweden, which also fell on stage.

After the competition, she unfurled a picture of gold quartet on Instagram. “Jaaaaa !!! Have not vote again …. “writes Uhrenholdt Jacobsen.

She has received their dose slams. She drove off on the bike and was badly injured. But she built up again. She felt that her mother was ill, and that his mother was healthy again. She drove right into a lamppost under tremila Holmenkollen last year. And it was in the ambulance to the hospital. Before the Olympics, she lost her brother. And last fall did not workout. The body would not be with.

But 28-year-old was wise, as usual, let the body rest – and was ready for the World Cup. It started with silver at 15 km skibytte, so she smeared away (like the rest of the team) at 10 kg box. And today, Thursday was the relay gold.

– The medal itself is not worth much, but the feeling along the way, the most ring, says Uhrenholdt Jacobsen.

– Will you say that this gold is fair after all that has happened, or is there a reward?

– The sport is not fair. Gullet is a reward, answer 28-year-old from Oslo.

Nervous

– It is the first time that I go relay (in VM) since 2007, and even though I was so nervous that I’ve never been, I feel that I went a good race.

She sits between Bjoergen and Johaug at the press conference after the relay. There are many good glance between the ladies, and many large smile. Heidi Weng smiles very large flank beside Johaug.

– Astrid could just go his own race and even increase slightly, so she gave Marit a good starting point, says coach Egil Kristiansen to VG.

Thus did Bjoergen a straightforward task and Norway entered into gold. 29.2 seconds ahead of Sweden. Bronze went to Finland.

It was a gold many really untested Norway, and perhaps especially Uhrenholdt Jacobsen.

– It is great fun that she gets her first gold in as many years. There has been much almost Astrid, but now it went down, says Vibeke Skofterud VG VM facility.
