Here is VG overview of current activities in the WSC in Falun.

9:00: CROSS COUNTRY, press conference ahead Wednesday 15 km Men

13.30: CROSS COUNTRY, 10 km free technique, women

Norwegian participants:

Marit Bjoergen (34), Rognes. Eighth VM (debut 2001). 20 World Championship medals to now (13-4-3). Took bronze in 10 free in the 2005 World Championships and silver two years ago. Won 10 km in 2011, but then walked exercise in classic style. Ragnhild Haga (24), Heming. World Cup debutant. 4th place in today’s practice at the World Cup in Davos before Christmas. No.. 10 in rehearsal in Östersund a week ago. Astrid Uhrenholdt Jacobsen (28), Heming. Fifth World Cup. Have two individual medals, sprint gold in 2007 and silver in Saturday’s 15 km mass start. Therese Johaug (26), Nansen. Fifth World Cup. Nine medals till now (5-1-3). Title Defender in current practice. Heidi Weng (23), BUL. Other World Cup. No.. 6 of 10 km free technique in the World Championship in 2013.

History:

10 km has been discontinued 28 times World Cup history, but only six times in free technique. Anette Bøe skated to gold in Seefeld in 1985, 1.4 seconds ahead of Finnish Marja-Liisa Kirvesniemi , Grete Ingeborg Nykkelmo on bronze. So accustomed Yelena Välbe Gold for Soviet in both 1989 and 1991. Marianne Dahlmo took a 6th place in Lahti, while Inger Lise Hegge was best Norwegian with a 12th-place in Val di Fiemme. Then it went 14 years before the exercise was again on the VM program (hunting starts are thus not included). Czech Katerina Neumannova triumphed in both 2005 (bronze Marit Bjoergen ) and in 2007 (4th place Kristin Stormer Steira) before Therese Johaug and Marit Bjoergen provisioned Norwegian double victory two years ago.

VG tip:

Gold discussion trades mainly three runners; defending champion Therese Johaug , gold wholesaler Marit Bjoergen and home hope, Olympic champion from 2010, Charlotte Kalla . The latter won the league of its style in the World Cup dress rehearsal in Ostersund, struck when Bjoergen and Johaug respectively 36 and 53 seconds. This is exercise Kalla have looked forward to. So although Bjoergen probably recovered and Johaug is reset after mass-gold, so we believe in a longed Swedish gold today.

Sweden won the individual World Cup sprint for women in 2005 through Emelie Öhrstig, but otherwise have not won anything individually distance cross country for women in World Cup since 1987, when Marie-Helene “Billan» Westin won 20 km free in Oberstdorf.
