Mother Weng: – Bjørgen has been like a mom for Heidi – Aftenposten

Heidi Weng have learned much from the prototype, but in one area she has never copied Marit Bjoergen.

LILLEHAMMER: When Heidi Weng was small, she sat glued to the TV screen when Marit Bjoergen went flows. This season will be the opposite.

For while Marit Bjoergen (35) has terminated in December, hoping Heidi Weng (24) to climb even closer to the world top in winter sports in the winter.

It must she so, achieving unequaled close supervision of mentor. One of those who know Heidi Weng best, tells of a very special relationship.

– Heidi has always been very fond of Marit Bjoergen. She is like a mother for her, says 24-year-old real mother May Bente Weng.

– I’ve learned a lot of many, but it is perhaps Marit I have learned most of, says Weng yourself.

But the aspiring skiing stars mean she is not alone in having a kind of daughter relation to Bjørgen.

– I think really it’s like that for many of us. She is the one that has been longest in the game, and she has very good procedures. She is very confident in himself. It is not only I who speak like that, most people find it, said Weng when she met Aftenposten in conjunction with the national collection in Lillehammer earlier in August.

WENGEN “media strategy”

Just like Marit Bjoergen has been for years, has Heidi Weng become a pet issue among Norwegian cross-country enthusiasts. It has hardly put a damper on the status that Weng had the habit of giving very emotional interviews after the finish.

Kron example came after Tour de Ski-ending in January. Weng secured third place overall, but that was not why she burst into tears in front NRK camera. She was simply touched on behalf of Marit Bjoergen, who had finally taken his first overall win in the Tour de Ski.

Mamma May Bente pulls forward approach to media as an area where Bjoergen is a role model for her teammates. Weng rejects, however, that she has received media tips from Bjoergen.

– Where do I go my own way, says Weng with a smile, before she elaborates:

– I do not really like to just talk . I have not thought so much of what I do, I get asked, and the answer.

– There are unaccustomed

In other areas, however, “Mommy Bjørgen” worth gold. For Weng has gradually been many trips into the back of skilegenden.

– I’ve become much better technically. Going behind her has helped me a lot, she says.

This year, however, can not be Bjoergen testing Weng hard sessions. 35-year-old has long since begun to take it easy in training and have only plans to attend a couple of meetings before she retires.

Bjørgen has announced that she bets against the Lahti World Championships in 2017. Heidi Weng will however, told from home to turn to the notion of a national life without Bjoergen.

– I have the impression that Marit is very good at taking care of her teammates. We have reminded Heidi that she must take it with you further, and take good only for those who come after, says May Bente Weng.

Focus on Tour de Ski

Last winter was Weng number two behind Bjoergen in the World Cup long before she was finally passed by Therese Johaug at the end. Thus, Weng a natural candidate to take over the throne in cross country Bjørgens sabbatical.

If that is precisely Wenger burning ambition, it is a well-kept secret. For 24-year-old insists that the goal remains simply is to “become a better skier.”

She is, however, clear that there are two Tours, in Central Europe in January and in Canada in March, is most important in the upcoming season.

– Actually, it’s the Tour de Ski which I appreciate as the greatest. Meanwhile, last season the first time I got it to the Tour de Ski. I tend to be in the best shape in March. Either way it’s Tour de Ski which is the supreme goal.

The World Cup starts on 27 November, when there is competing in classical interval start for women and men in Ruka, Finland.
