Northug hints Coop exit – Aftenposten

Petter Northug is strong in the belief that he continues on the national team next season. Should that happen, he must shelve sponsorship agreement.

Petter Northug went into second overall in the Tour de Ski Sunday. Thus Mosvik no once again proved that the shape is approaching before Falun Championships.

However, it was long uncertain whether Northug would go this season Tour de Ski, or VM for that matter. Negotiations on a compensation agreement with FIS stalling and did not materialize. Northug signed at the end of the twelfth hour, just before the deadline on November 1.

Under the agreement Northug goes World Cup with the national team jersey, not the Coop jersey. During the Tour de Ski was however food chain logo on start numbers. It was Mosvik no note.

When he celebrated victory in Thursday’s pursuit he praised logo.

After Sunday’s tour ending hinted however Northug that the agreement with Coop can go towards the end.

In an interview with NRK he told about his desire to go one eight ettapper long tour in Canada .

– I’ve seen on the tour in Canada and the deadlines very, said Northug NRK.

Should Northug go the tour, and other World Cup, he must however terminate the agreement with Coop.

– It will go well, said Northug, questions about the forthcoming negotiations with Ski Federation.

– Have spent time dealing with it

skiing stars are known for their cryptic statements, but the quotes can be interpreted he envisions a future with the national team beyond Innvær season.

Ski Federation has already made it clear that if Northug want to continue the national team next season, he can not promote Coop season break either.

– In 2014 was Northug except the rules to promote a private sponsorship between 1 May and 24 November. In 2015, the opportunity taken away, said Secretary General of Ski Federation Stein Opsal Aftenposten.

– special agreements from 2014 we will not continue, but if he relate to the same rules as the other athletes in 2015, he is warmly welcomed, continues Opsal.

– Why do not you on the same deal as in 2014?

– It was a transitional from the agreement for 2013-2014 season, which was the first season Petter stood outside national team. In 2014, we tightened and in 2015 he must be on an equal footing with everyone. This has been a new situation, which we have spent time managing in a good way, says Opsal.

– Up to Petter

Thus, the Secretary-General clear: Petter Northug must choose between Coop and the World Cup during 2015. Northug statements may indicate that it is Coop that must yield. However, it is contrary to the Northug Manager Are Sorum Langås said in September.

– Petter selected Coop and Coop have selected Petter. It is therefore not applicable for Petter to break or break the agreement with Coop and return the national team after the World Cup in Falun.

– The reason for this is that Petter after nine years on the national team had a strong need for change. Then came Coop in and made it possible to continue his active career, said Langås VG.

Opsal in Ski Federation will not say anything about the probability that Northug continues on the national team.

– It is too early to say nothing about. It is entirely up to Petter to determine this. He is well aware of the guidelines that will apply. It had been nice to him back in the national team on May 1, said Opsal.

Neither Northug Manager Are Sorum Langås or kommunikasjonsdirektær Coop Kristin Paus has answered Aftenposten inquiries.
