Sundby parked Northug and came up first monster hill – Dagbladet.no

OSLO / Fiemme Valley (Dagbladet): It was time for a nail-biter without just before climbing up the monster hill today. Petter Northug went out three small seconds ahead Martin Johnsrud Sundby, with Calle Halfvarsson a scant half minutes behind.

Sundby and Northug went together into the three-kilometer long ski slope. And after a short time got Sundby a hatch to Trønder, which eventually grew solidly. There was no doubt.

Martin Johnsrud Sundby secured its second straight Tour de Ski victory.

– It was nerve-wracking, but I’m so glad that I managed to come first in this year too. I actually felt totally shit the first kilometers, but I managed to get myself to the ground and from there I knew I on a good day could be better than Petter says Sundby in victory interview.

And while Northug continued to lose time Sundby came Swede and Russian at a time dangerously close. But Northug second place was never threatened. Petter Northug secured his fourth second place in the Tour de Ski, and crossed the finish line just over half minutes behind Sundby.

That was the thrill of who would hijack the coveted third place of Russian Belov and Swedish Halfvarsson. The Russian pressure, however from the Swede in the steepest section, and went into the third.
