Copy player with outbursts against Sharapova – Dagbladet.no

(Dagbladet): Tennis Stjerna Maria Sharapova (28) tested positive for the banned substance meldonium. Yesterday she cards on the table during a shocking press conference in Los Angeles.

The former tenisspilleren Jennifer Capriati (39) races:

– I am extremely angry and disappointed. I even had to add up and could not cheated – whatever. I had to throw in the towel and suffer, tweet Capriati.

She was even taken for marijuana in 1994, but came back. In 2004 she was forced to retire because of injury.

The outbreak against Sharapova redistributed by several media, including ESPN.

– I did not have a team of doctors who helped me cheat – and bypass system – until science caught up, writes Capriati, who has nine Grand Slam titles.

But opinions differ:

– Relax, folks. I do not have all the facts. But I hope it’s an honest mistake. As far as I know the drug was legal until 2015, writes tennis legend Martina Navratilova on Twitter.

Frequently ill

At the press conference yesterday told Sharapova she has taken meldonium since 2006. The reason why she started was disease – such as frequent colds – and that there is family history of diabetes. She had irregular ECG.

The product is developed in Latvia. The effect is that it increases the flow of blood through the heart.

30. September last year notified the Russian anti-doping agency Rusada that meldonium should be banned from 2016. December 22 received Sharapova an email from the international doping agency Wada with the same information. But she never opened the mail.

– I have taken this drug legally for ten years. But I made a mistake. I know there will be consequences, but will not end my career this way, said Sharapova at the press conference yesterday.

She tested positive for the Australian Open in January.

– I hope I get the chance to play tennis again. I can not blame anyone but myself. I’ve failed the fans.

Cancels Agreement

Sharapova will be expelled from all tennis from March 12 while the case investigated. She risks sentence of up to four years. If so, she goes miss Rio Olympics in August.

Sharapova has been the highest-paid female athlete in the world. The sports giant Nike has suspended the agreement with superstars. The same applies to the Swiss watch brand Tag Heuer.

The Russian tennis president Shamil Tarpishchev does not preclude Sharapova to play in the Olympics. It depends on how Wada perceive tennis player’s use and subsequent explanation.

– I think she’s going to play in the Olympics. We’ll see how this develops, said Tarpishchev news agency Tass.
