Espelund: – Totally unacceptable for me to run for the office of president football – TV 2

Saturday it is known that football president Yngve Hallén has made a surprising about-face and given the Election Committee of the NFF told that he will not stand for re-election as soccer president.

One of the candidates who have been mentioned as a possible successor for Hallén’s Karen Espelund.

She was secretary general of the NFF from 1999 to 2009 and has in recent years been a member of numerous committees in both the NFF, UEFA and FIFA.

Do not enlisted
Espelund currently working as county director of culture and communications in South-Trøndelag county. 54-year-old is also a member of the UEFA Board, and serves on the FIFA committee for women’s football.

– For my own part of the question at even consider running for office as soccer president. I am sure that Norwegian football has good candidates for the Executive Committee, and that they find one that unites the peak width in a good way and is based on the great organization NFF operates in terms of volunteerism, says Espelund to TV2 Sport.

– Why would you not enlisted?

– It is because I have a twofold role my job in Oslo and my director of UEFA. It is these two features I want to prioritize my workload in the future, she says.

Do not speculate on candidates
The former Secretary-General will not speculate on which candidates may emerge to the presidency.

– The Election Committee must work in good cooperation with the rest of the organization and make time for themselves the council, she points out.

Espelund understand that Yngve Hallén would not stand for reelection.

– I think Yngve has made a great effort. I’ve known him for years and he has some enterprising years as manager of Sogndal and Norwegian football. He will certainly be involved in various levels going forward, says Espelund.

– But it still remains important tasks for Hallén. He must, among other things loose organization through an important new media contract, she states.
