Unbeaten against Hungary in 34 years – Drammens Times

Hungary was for many years a mare for Norway’s national football team, but it ended in the 1980s. Norway is unbeaten against Hungary in the last nine games. Previous losses were 34 years ago.

OSLO: October 1981 did Norway beating of Hungarians for the last time, 4-1 on Nepstadium (now Ferenc Puskás stadium). Then followed four 0-0 games in a row before Norway in 1996 won 3-0 in World Cup qualifier at Ullevaal with real hattrick by Kjetil Rekdal played last eight minutes.

The return match at Nepstadium following year ended 1-1, the Norwegian way toward group victory and VM space. In qualifying for the European Championships in 2008, Norway took two clear victories. In September 2006, scored Ole Gunnar Solskjær their last two countries brawl when Norway won 4-1 at Ujpest court in Budapest. The following year it was 4-0 at Ullevaal.

Currently, the last meeting was at Puskas Stadium three years ago (14 November 2012), when the goal of Håvard Nielsen and Mohammed Abdellaoue gave a deserved Norwegian 2- 0 victory. Seven of the players in today’s Norwegian troop on the pitch that night, while all ten of the players of the Hungarian troop got playing time.

Some of the goalless games against Hungarians was the turning point for the national team. After 0-0 in European Championship qualifying in Bergen in October 1990 selected Ingvar Stadheim to resign as coach. Egil “Drillo” Olsen came in and started a period of success without equal for Norwegian international football.

In the return match in Szombathely in October 1991 found Drillo, after a year of trial and error, his midfield general in Kjetil Rekdal. He would become Drillos most used and highest scorer, including the match winner in both team’s victories in World Cup finals (against Mexico in 1994 and to Brazil in 1998).

Norway’s last nine matches against Hungary has given four wins and five draws, with this bet 2.14. The first eight gave the comparison one win and seven losses, with total this bet 5-30
