Super Dealings gave career best for Mowinckel – Aftenposten

Strong Norwegian efforts in Austria.

Ragnhild Mowinckel ran up nine places in giant slalom finals and was fifth in Austrian Kühtai Sunday. It was her best result in the World Cup ever.

From sooner had Mowinckel an 8th place to boast of giant slalom race in Beaver Creek about a year ago. Sunday she made 14th place from first place to shame when she aggressively plunged down the hill.

Mowinckel did indeed very exciting in a final round where she drove into the lead with 0.37 seconds. Runs after runner crossed the finish behind the Norwegian girl.

Until four skiers remained.

Swedish cheers

The top four from the first place, which also had solid lead on 22-year old from Molde, all came in front of the goal.

Debut Victory in the World Cup was for Swedish Sara Hector. She beat veteran Anna Fenninger nine hundredths of a second, while Mikaela Shiffrin took third place after leading halfway.

Mowinckel was only 54 hundredths behind the winner. Before the final round, she had 1.08 seconds to run into.

Strong run

French Adeline Baud had led long as Mowinckel ate time for every passing point. She drove very aggressively and almost flawlessly and had the best time of all in the second half.

Strong skiers as Tina Maze and Lara Gut was beaten, but eventually there came a quartet that was too strong and destroyed the Norwegian hope for a top position.

Nina Løseth ran up three places in the final round and finished twelve. She made a small mistake midway through the race and lost some time to the best. In goal, she was 1.19 behind Hector.
