Norway had good control of Sweden and secured place in the European Championship final with 29-25 victory Friday night.
Swedish players were naturally very disappointed after the loss. The same was undoubtedly also the Swedish public and the media back home in Sweden.
The Swedish big newspaper Aftonbladet is still humble enough to acknowledge that Norway is still “storsyrra” within woman handball.
– Thanks for the lesson, big sister! You are still the greatest, writes newspaper handball reporter Johan Flinck.
– We have talked, written, tweeted and blogged about the Norwegian winner culture and I do not know if it was the one who decided eventually. It was class difference of almost all positions and all over. (…) Sweden has not the winner culture. Not yet, he continues.
The Swedish national team Helle Thomsen admitted smooth that Sweden was more numbers too small.
– I have the feeling that we were one or two steps behind all the time. We always had to chase a lead, says Thomsen said.
– The difference is like this. Norway wins fully deserved, she adds.
Sweden’s biggest handball star Isabelle Gulldén also recognize the difference in level. The disappointment was still heavy in the profile.
– We were little sister today and Norway were big sister. Norway played so much better than us. They seemed more ready than we were. It may be because they have been in this situation before, she says to TV 2.
Gulldén does not hide that it was gold dream that burst of Sweden.
– It feels absolutely terrible. Really. This championship was to be our championship. We were on time, but then we met the wall today. For it was indeed what we did, she said.
