Liverpool – Manchester United 1-2

Having heavily worn before the break against archrival Manchester United was Steven Gerrard swapped in to give Liverpool a boost in the second half. But after less than one minute on the pitch was veteran ordered in the locker room after an ugly incident with United’s Ander Herrera.

After 25 seconds on the field captain went hard into a tackle with the Spaniard, before eight seconds later apparently stamped Herrera. Thus so do not judge Martin Atkinson no other way than to send Gerrard in the shower after only 39 seconds on the field.

In the Sky Sports studio after the game set Gerrards former teammate Jamie Carragher. He was asked to explain Gerrards action.

– It was a moment of madness, says Carragher.

Gerrard – I take full responsibility

The former Liverpool stopper think Gerrard was frustrated that he did not start the game.

– He has always been the team’s main players. This is the first time he has not been fixed on the team. I think he watched from the bench in the first half of the players who are not performed in his position, and thought: Why does not I?.

– Gerrard is an emotional player, adds Carragher to.

After the match let Gerrard flat.

– I have disappointed my teammates and the fans. I take full responsibility, says Gerrard told Sky Sports.

– I do not know what caused it. Probably it was just a reaction to tackle in advance. I should not say more about it, really, I’m just coming here to apologize to the rest of the team and supporters, he said further.

Art Scoring Mata

United were dominant before the break, with one player more on the pitch got Brendan Rodgers’ men a much tougher task. A scant minutes after the break as everything seems to be settled Juan Mata doubled United’s lead with an art piece of a goal.

Ángel di María, who was substituted at half, found the Spaniard with an exquisite chip. Mata would not be any worse, and put it in the corner of acrobatic show.

Everything seems to be over for Liverpool, but with just over 20 minutes left to play lit Daniel Sturridge hoped. The Englishman was played through by Philipe Coutinho and scores online behind David De Gea.

With one player less on the court threw the hosts ahead in the field to ensure equalization, but even if they sometimes managed to keep ball on Uniteds half, could not made to play into the whole big chances.

On overtime got Manchester United instead ability to puncture the settlement. Wayne Rooney has not scored at Anfield since January 2005, and the striker’s goal drought on arch rival’s home ground continues. From the penalty spot, he could not outwit Simon Mignolet three minutes into time added on.

With Sunday’s victory is the hatch from Manchester United in fourth place for Liverpool on five points. The defeat was Liverpool’s first defeat in the Premier League since they lost to Manchester United just in December.

Louis van Gaal and his men are now two points behind crosstown City in second place when it remains eight rounds. Liverpool looks far tougher. The team is five points behind the space that gives Champions League football next season. In the next round traveling red Royen to Emirates to meet form strong Arsenal.

Spanish cooperation

The expectations were high ahead of Sunday’s meeting between two of English football greats. The difference between the teams were two points in favor United before settlement in what many saw as a key challenge in the fight for the top four and European Cup games next season.

There were guests from Manchester who got the better time. They dressed in white dominated the ground game in the opening minutes. When they after a scant quarter took the lead was a Spanish duo was in the lead roles.

Ander Herrera played compatriot Juan Mata through behind a sleeping Alberto Moreno. Alone with Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet did Mata no mistake, and thus had the guests got a dream opening at Anfield.

Liverpool double on the first attempt

Jordan Henderson found Daniel Sturridge at the corner of the 16-yard box. England striker rolled the ball on to Adam Lallana as from brilliant position he shot just wide.

The duel between Liverpool and Manchester United are one of the biggest rivalries in football. Louis van Gaal has been under heavy pressure at times this season, but his record against arch rival will probably get supporters to smile. Unlike predecessor David Moyes has Dutchman a good hold on the main rival.

While Moyes was defeated in both ligaduellene with the team from Merseyside, can van Gaal show victories both at Old Trafford and Anfield.
