Champions League adventure is over for Storhamar. But it is just to thank you for a wonderful hockey party.
storhamar dragons – TPS Turku 1-2 (0-1, 1-0 , 0-1)
HAMAR (Aftenposten): In the ditch after Storhamars turbo drive in the Champions League is European greats such as Sparta Prague, Geneva-Servette and Red Bull Salzburg . Unfortunately the Finnish TPS Turku just a small notch too good for yet another sensation. But Storhamar bowed under before it remained 37 seconds. When put TPS into 2-1 goal into the empty cage.
It is not always strong teams from leagues in Sweden and Finland have taken the European tournament as seriously. Just to make it absolutely clear: This tournament has gained status among the really good teams.
Just how much Storhamar have recovered economically for CHL-adventure no one would be quoted on Tuesday. But unlike in previous attempts at European hockey betting, one goes at least with a solid profit. Nothing ala football fantasy sums, but which still appears on the club’s bottom line.
For both Hamar city and players has been a wonderful experience and change from the slightly melancholy start the team has had in the domestic league. For Norwegian hockey has also been a tremendous encouragement.
Champions Hockey League had equally sent its chief executive Martin Baumann to Hamar to check the mood. There was also the Swedish hockey legend Håkan Loob and longstanding Färjestad coach Bo “Kulon” Lennartsson.
Good point
– Wonderful to be part of a Norwegian hockey party, said Loob Aftenposten . He has been involved in some high point before in his career. ON CV has Loob both victory in the Olympics, World Championships and Stanley Cup. But a “mætt barn” was the first time he experienced. 5367 spectators says it all about the interest in this fight.
The starting point was not easy, but not impossible. Lose 3-4 away from home in the first leg was certainly to live with. For it is at home “dragons” have really set on fire fighting. In pot lay the quarterfinals of the Champions Hockey League, it would have been one of the all-time performance of an underdog.
Unfortunately for the home team could not one of the club’s most important players, Christian Larrivee, getting rid groin injury in time to fight . Fresh in time, however, was the important full-back Lars Løkken Østli that has been out for over a month with an injured shoulder. Back was also Jimmy Andersson who fell out of favor after he had led the team behind the light in a case of change of citizenship.
About TPS took some light on the Norwegian team at the start of the first game, the players were on the Finnish team properly sharpened from the first drop in Olympic Amphitheatre.
Finnish grip
Back legend Petteri Nummelin, 42 years old and world champion for Finland for 20 (!) years ago steered his troops with steady hand. So one could of course argue that 42 is a well advanced age for a hockey player, but it was also Nummelin that really grabbed his teammates when Storhamar shocked Finns and led 3-0 in Finland.
Nummelin back partner is no junior: Swedish Henrik Tallinder. Has 700 NHL games on his mantle, so can their cases.
Heavy name, but the team’s real attraction at Hamar was the American Dave Spina. A whirlwind of energy plays that were both disgusting good and pretty nasty in duels as well.
Joakim Jensen had a gigantic opportunity to give Storhamar to a dream start but could not fool the goalkeeper when he played all alone through . Guests had a good grip on the first period, but the home crowd glimpsed hope when Storhamar got hideout games. The statistics (scoring in every three powerplay) was homemade, but there was never any arrangement on the first attempt.
When TPS took took four seconds before the puck was behind Oskar Östlund in Storhamar cage.
At the guests led 1-0 after the first period was okay. It was some of the home team players were revealed on the pace.
Dream scored
In the first settlement in Finland hung Storhamar really on the ropes throughout the fight, but the home grew created throughout the middle period. And when it was finally allowed to cheer, it was a goal with ribbon and style. Jacob Berglund took as well the matter entirely in your own hands, spun gracefully between TPS players and feinted beat the stands. A solo raid worth the admission fee alone.
Although TPS had the most shots on goal in the period, they were black and blue from Mjøsas bank close to scoring several times. Closest was Hampus Gustafsson, but Teemu Lassila in TPS-cage was onto them.
In the final period had TPS puck a lot, but the enormous chances noted we did not before Henrik Tallinder put the puck in the open cage with only 37 seconds left.
More than 5,000 in the stands stood up and burst into thunderous applause after the match was over. It deserved really homemade!
