D-day for Northug – Fædrelandsvennen

At 10 Thursday put Judge Ingrid Stigum court confession case against Northug. Then set aside four hours for treatment, but all indications are that the hearing will be over far more quickly.

Which criminal prosecution advocates known Norwegian skier shall be imposed, is not yet known. Experts have however been agreed that Northug must expect a custodial sentence. Whatever the verdict would still several issues surrounding the implementation of the sentence stand unanswered. Whether Northug can postpone his sentence until after the upcoming ski season, or if he is granted atonement with ankle bracelet, the Correctional Service which will decide.

– Petter is determined that he must go through and take what comes. We have not thought too much about the length of the sentence, but we hope that he gets the zone after the season is over. We have not thought too much of atonement way. This is the case not something that we control, said coach Stig Rune Kveen NTB earlier in the week.

When Northug appear in court Thursday, he must answer for a total of six offenses in connection with completing the run on Byåsen 4. May. Besides riding too fast and under influence of alcohol, the 28-year-old charged with reckless driving and leaving one person injured in the car without notifying the police.

Most serious is probably still the breach of the criminal law. It’s about Northug three times in the hours after completing the run gave his friend as the driver of the car accident. Therefore contains the charge against known Norwegian skier also a violation of the Act’s false accusation. (© NTB)
