Frank Northug about the painful thoughts – Aftenposten

The accident is still living in his head. – It can be as disruptive as not sleeping.

GATWICK (adressa.no): He avoided the nightmares and sleepless nights, but the thoughts that have emerged after the accident, has been difficult for Petter Northug.

– I have struggled to get to sleep. I’ve gotten enough sleep, but it is something that is in terms box and it can be as disruptive as not sleeping.

It says Petter Northug Adresseavisen inside a meeting room at Rica Nideleven, a few hours after he was sentenced to 50 days in jail, a fine of 185,000 dollars and the loss of leading law “forever.” It is the first time he set up this type of interview since 5 May. It was the day after he crashed while drunk on Byåsen, leaving the injured companion in the passenger seat and then blamed it on buddy.

One of the worst days

The interview then took place on a miserable meeting room in a guest house at Storlien. Northug was in tears, showed up in a shirt with torn and seemed very influenced by experiences day in advance. Never had he ever been so far down.

Also Thursday was the 28-year-old cross-country star alvorstynget, yet far more similar to the issue of Petter Northug we usually know. Country skier who has been accustomed to command any venue he performs at.

– Is this the worst day of your life?

– Yes, it is At least one of the worst. I was prepared for this day would come and that it was going to be a tough day. It was a new setting that I have not been in the past. It goes without saying that it was not easy.

Distracting thoughts

Northug accepted the judgment immediately. One of the questions now is how the sentence will be. He will not speculate.

28-year-old has found back to life as a top athlete. The test results fall shows that he is probably better than ever. But in my head it has been difficult to put away the evil that took place on 4 May. The thoughts he himself describes as “disruptive” has followed him.

– It has been a tough time afterwards, both for me and my loved ones. It takes some time before such an impression sinks in properly. It takes some time to get upstairs again and get back to a normal life.

Second question is what he has learned and extent to which the country’s biggest sporting profile changed after he was picked up by police at his home on Dalgård night until 4 May. The lies that he has previously delivered in the media is something he virtually admitted with pride. Six months before the crash on Byåsen Northug said that he did not entirely the reason to tell the truth and said that he has never been honest in an entire interview.

Frankly, he was not when he spoke to police on the morning May 4, claiming that his friend had brought the luxurious Audi. This was one of the points Northug was convicted Thursday. He believes it is wrong to compare the lie to the police with bluffs earlier in his career.

– It happened at the police station was more of a shock, combined with alcohol. I was not thinking clearly and drove me a bit stuck. The seriousness I realized in retrospect.

Five hours of freedom

After the interrogation, clock 11:15 Northug was set free. What happened to the five hours until he put all the cards on the table clock 18.15, is still unclear.

Northug will not say who he spoke to during this period, but this provides the answer to what he spent hours on

– First and foremost, I got to get out and meet some of those who are closest to me. I got drowned mind, and then I realized even more and more of the seriousness of the matter. That it was about to get corrected what was said at first and then be honest and come out of it.

A normal life

– What are your thoughts on drinking and driving after that you now have experienced?

– Both before this happened and continued thereafter shall be absolutely forbidden to sit in a car when you’re drunk. These are the things that should not happen. It is terrible when you sit in such a situation. When it first happened, one must try to get through as much as feasible.

– How can you be sure it’s not going to happen again?

– You get a real lesson. When you are very sure it does not happen again. Man has put himself in a situation that has led you kind of put yourself in the lock.

During the talk at Storlien, only just over a day after the drama at Byåsen, Petter Northug clear that he would make changes in their lives. The goal was then as now to get back on the ski piste.

– I’ve made changes that needed to thrive, it has been the most important. I know what I must do to thrive. Then I have to live as normal a life as possible, says Petter Northug now.

– Have you tasted alcohol after May 4

– No, there has been very limited. I’ve kind of had no chance. There have been other priorities that have been important to me.
