Massive trail-slaughter after femmila: – Not a VM worthy – VG

FALUN / OSLO (AP) Petter Northug (29) took gold medal, but the organizers are really lay for femmilsløypa.

– It is not a cause which is a World Cup worthy, says Niklas Dyrhaug VG.

That it would snow during today 50 kilometers came as no surprise. It told about the weather forecasts already Saturday. But rainfall, along with late salting, created big, big trail problems.

Just before the start went for VMs greatest of strength, began the first snøfjonene falling over Lugnet Stadium. As runners traversed kilometer after kilometer, the snow increased in intensity.

It did naturally course heavy and difficult to move forward in. The tracks were deep and very loose snow, several runners fell and many got stavbrekk under hardships – including Dyrhaug Martin Johnsrud Sundby and gold medalist Petter Northug.

NRK expert commentator Torgeir Bjorn mentioned the hard-hitting femmila as a parody while runners trampled and struggled forward in the track. In the descents were staked vehemently. In uphills they had almost achieved high knee-lift to take care off.

– It was heavy. Damn, it was heavy. There were circumstances that I’ve never encountered before. It is better lead on Rindal race to put it that way, says Dyrhaug VG.

– Too bad

Finally, it was Petter Northug was strongest in the current test of manhood, when he sprinted into gold after a spectacular ending. Lukas Bauer took the silver, while Johan Olsson took bronze.

– The world’s best skiers running here, but it looks as if they’ve never been skiing before. They run in 40-50 centimeters of fresh snow, or Snow Grains in some places, says national coach Trond Nystad while the Norwegian national anthem was played for Northug on Lugnet in Falun, Friday afternoon.

– I think it’s too bad conditions, but organizers had challenging weather here. There has not been much frost. But organizers and FIS must try to analyze what happened and learn. Maybe we can preserve the snow on a better way another time.

It was not only Norwegians who thrived poor in powder today. Opposite Aftonbladet says Calle Halfvarsson following:

– It was a very special cause, man sank down constantly and got no grip on the track. So bad that this should not have to be at a World Cup. There are bad track, easily.

Mashed

Teams Comrade Daniel Richardsson though agree.

– It is the worst I have experienced. It unwatchable to proceed through. It was incredibly bad groomed, he said to Expressen.

Canadian Ivan Babikov landed a piece down the leaderboard, and had it far from fun when he took up the steepest hills in Falun.

– It was like mashed potatoes. Mördarbakken. It was incredibly tough, he says.

Also Didrik Tønseth got a tough time looking at today femmil. But no worse than he had powers to flippant little after he had worked his way into eighth place.

– There were several parties that were decent, but it was bottomless slot. It was difficult to walk properly on skis. It is rumored that they used the wrong salt, they have used road salt, said Tønseth and smiles broadly.

Defending track

The Swedish newspaper Expressen met one of trail bosses, Thomas Wassberg, after the medals were handed out at femmila. He says he does not take himself to criticism that the runners have come with.

– As the situation has been since yesterday, we could not have done anything differently. Around the stadium and sprint trails were completely destroyed by combined rennet. They wanted the mainframe and salty as f *** yesterday. When it was destroyed, he states.

Today’s criticism is not the first that has come on the slopes of this VMet. Wassberg admits that it has not been especially fun.

– It’s a bit frustrating, there is much that makes snow wear violently. This has become so large, there is a lot of people running in pieces snow. There are billboards, there are TV cameras, TV cables and such. It is struggling on the snow.
