Northug after four World Championship gold: – I am totally destroyed – NRK

– Relief. I’m so damn tired. I completely destroyed. I go here and fainted in my own world.

Petter Northug is extraordinarily hushed where he wanders through the media center in Falun. He will into NRK inner corridors to be interviewed for Sport revue.

dismantling of technical equipment is in full swing, an ever so little chaos prevails.

AFTER THOUGHT: Petter Northug sinking into the couch , knowing that Falun Championships completely exceeded his own dreams.

It does not seem to rush Petter Northug. He sinks into the couch, fold your arms out on the sofa back, put her head back and closes his eyes.

What goes on inside his head, only he knows himself. Maybe it’s nothing. Perhaps it is completely empty, as he himself claims.

World gravel

Perhaps mind goes back to 4th. The day when the world crumbled. The day when Petter Northug sat behind the wheel and crashed with alcohol in the blood.

Maybe he thinks of one of the many hard workouts. On the way back.

Do not disregard the fact that there is a thought to those who dismissed him. Those who denounced him. Those who wished him further excuse.

Or maybe he thinks Championships in Falun. In the audience cheering – and harassed. In the sprint he had to change ramp plans to get going and that he won. In the relay, revenge after the Olympic debacle. Or at femmila he has just gone – and won.

Sitting he internalises that he along with Sixten Jernberg is the only one in history to win gold at femmil four international championships?

Sitting he thinking that he became the first master runner in history has taken four gold in a single championship?

– Indescribable

It may have their closest he thinks. Mom and Dad John May, who have supported him over the years – and especially after the infamous car journeys. Brothers Even and Tomas, who shall go along with World in Drammen 11 March. On Manager Are Sorum Langås, who put their lives on hold when buddy’s life was nearly drowned in mud. Or at Hallgeir Martin Lundemo, longstanding bedsit host and muntrasjonsråd.

After Northug sprinted goal stood Hallgeir Martin long quietly at target with a large picture. Image by Petter and was taken when Northug was scrapped to femmila in his first World Championships in Sapporo in 2007.

Same Hallgeir Martin was considerably less calm, but at almost exactly the same place, when Petter Northug first wrote international skiing history. For it was the same Hallgeir Martin Northug threw himself around the neck after being the youngest ever winner of a World Cup, just here on Lugnet Falun – March 8, 2006.

Only Petter Northug know what Petter Northug thinking behind closed eyes. But this is what he says when asked about the race he just won:

– It is a great relief to go in goal. The feeling of crossing the finish line first is indescribable. That is what we train for, and that is what we hope to replicate in championships. I have had the opportunity several times here in Falun. It is the feeling that is difficult to describe, but which is so good that you do everything you can to get it back.

Two extremes, long way

Northug will not go in depth about way back . The reconstruction of their own pride and honor.

But he admits that there has been blood, sweat and tears.

– There are two extremes, from being completely down to win four gold in a World Cup. The road has been long, it has been a lot of training, many tough sessions. But the plan we put in May has been solid. It has been very quality of what we have done and that is why I have been in such good shape that I’ve been in this championship.

– What’s the best being Petter Northug?

– It is difficult for me to answer. But I have my strengths in cross country track as I try to cultivate, and I try to be myself. When you go skiing up in Norway, it leads with a few things. I’ve been known that I have succeeded as a skier, and I take with me, he said.

Northug talking quietly. And low. He sparkles not of energy, as he often does after their triumphs.

He did not immediately after the finish or interview round out the stadium.

– One of the great legends

Perhaps not so strange. Running time two hours, 26 minutes and two seconds stressed that this was one of the most absorbent femmilene in modern skiing history. The trails were loose as sand beaches. During the entire course strewed sky more powder over the infamous Mördarbacken.

Many times along as Petter Northug completely finished out. He was never near it, he reveals afterwards. He had complete control.

Fatigue: It costs forces to take four World Championship gold.

At the international press conference he sits between silver medalist Lukas Bauer and Johan Olsson.

– He’s one of the big legends, brag Olsson, femmilsmesteren from Val di Fiemme two years ago.

– He has brought something new to the sport. It is very impressive that he has been the best so long. Everyone has hunted him and tried to copy him, but no one can reach him, says the Swede is perhaps the active skier in the world Petter Northug has the greatest respect for.

Olsson lends itself now. It think he Northug do.

– He just gets better and better. He has so many gold medals, and he still has more gold medals to take the next few years.

away from home

Back in NRK sofa Petter Northug been allowed – or more precisely, message – whether to lie. The last part of the interview will take place lying.

– I’ve had nice days here, it has been a very good audience. We’ve enjoyed the trail. So clearly I have noticed that I’ve been away from home and got some comments, but I have used them as motivation, says Northug.

– We’ll see you well in Lahti , half asks, half notes Ida Nysæter Rasch, which makes the interview.

– Yes, if I wake up, grins he cheated.

So much more will not Northug say about his possible participation in Lahti World Championships in 2017. He is painfully aware that major conflicts with Norway Ski Federation may prevent him from getting to start in Finland in two years.

It will he does not talk about. He will not even think about it. For right now, he has four gold to digest, and preferably in the most calm and peace.

And already next weekend is the new races to go, in Lahti. VM king femmilskongen and icon Northug.

HISTORY PRINTER: Last of the Norwegian goes Northug to start. Two and a half hour later he goes first of all a goal and becomes the first in history with four championship gold femmil.
