Caballero was the big hero in straffekonken – Dagbladet.no

• Liverpool – Manchester City 1-1 (0-1) Manchester City win 4-2 on penalties.

(Dagbladet): Manuel Pellegrini chose to start the match by 34-year-old Willy Caballero in goal , instead of Joe Hart who played Champions League match against Dinamo Kiev in midweek. That he would not regret.

When the battle would be decided on penalty saved last redoubt three times, and was the great hero at Wembley. He received a solid revenge after the weak performance against Chelsea in the FA Cup (1-5 loss), where several were very dissatisfied with the keeper.

– I’m glad Caballeros behalf because he played all his in the League Cup, says Agüero said.

Liverpool and Jürgen Klopp was a heavy day at work. German must wait for their first trophy in England.

– We tried everything, says a resigned Klopp after the game said.

Liverpool had won 14 of the last 17 penalty contests in history, which helped little today. It started well when Fernandinho hit the post on City’s first penalty, but from there and out shopped all about Caballero.

Yaya Toure scored the decisive penalty, and threw off his shirt in delight as he ran across the field. But City’s players knew right away who was hailed. Instead of celebrating with Toure, stormed teammates over to the real hero – Caballero.

Penalty competition was as follows:

1. punish (2-1): Emre Can lobs defense trailing in goal. – There is almost no law. It’s so lovely to look at, says Brede Hangeland in TV2 studio.

2. punish (2-1): Fernandinho shoots the post. It is advantage Liverpool.

3. punish (2-1): Caballero saves attempt to Lucas. We are equidistant.

4. punish (2-2): Navas sends the ball barely past Mignolet. Well located.

5. punish (2-2): Coutinho halt his run and sends the ball straight at Caballero. Poor shot.

6. punish (2-3): Aguero and City are in the driving seat by a well struck penalty.

7. punish (2-3): Lallana misses. Caballero is the big hero here.

8. punish (2-4): Yaya Touré settles it City. Mignolet goes the right way but the ball sneaks in goal.

Hard punished

Former Liverpool player Raheem Sterling should settled the final score 1-0 to City. Twice he was left completely alone and quit from good positions, and both times passed the ball wide of the goal of Mignolet.

You should not have too many such misses before being severely punished at this level, and it was City and Sterling . For instead of 2-0 to the blue offsetting a Liverpool side that had hardly created anything before goal.

goal to Coutinho was enough that there was extra time at Wembley. Agüero could have given City the lead just before the second half of extra time, but Mignolet stopped Argentine with a fine one-handed save.

At the other end would also City goalkeeper Caballero show off. Substitute Origination towered head a cross from the left, but the keeper gathers a good life.

Thus went the fight to the penalty shootout.

Management early half

Fernandinho gave Manchester City the lead at Wembley. Goal came after 49 minutes.

The midfielder came on a deep run from his right wing, got the ball off Aguero. The ending was not the best, but it was still enough to outwit Simon Mignolet in Liverpool cage.

The goalie went thus from the far scapegoat after he saved an effort from Agüero before the fire.

Former Liverpool player Raheem Sterling got a fighting chance to double the lead when he got the ball scant seven meters from goal, but he fired an aside post of Mignolet. The same man got a new fighting chance ten minutes before the end, but put it back outside from a good position.

Instead, it was 1-1 out of virtually nothing. Substitute Adam Lallana sends the ball into the post before Philippe Coutinho appeared on the rebound and put it in simple header.

A goofy Alberto Moreno could also incurred penalty when he threw out a leg in an attempt to stop Agüero. Referee Michael Oliver blew Liverpool’s relief did not whistle.

Fernando got a good chance to send City back in the lead, but his shot from close range was saved by Mignolet. And City continued to pour in for new goal. Yaya Touré should be scored after a corner, but feverish Liverpool players got knocked the ball away.

Stolpe Shot

Manchester City and Sergio Aguero got a fighting chance to give the blue lead after 23 minutes.

Silva found the Argentinian on race and Agüero cut inward path. Mamadou Sakho has lost his footing as he was attempting to stop the tip, so Agüero came closest defender Simon Mignolet.

Liverpool’s last stand saved the attempt from star player to City and hit the ball against the post.

– It’s a wonderful life, thought Brede Hangeland in TV2 studio.

outraged

A furious Sakho was substituted shortly afterwards. He would play on after he bald with teammate Emre Can, but the Liverpool management chose to put catching up Kolo Toure instead.

Sakho responded by throwing a water bottle in frustration, before he had to take the difficult road to the bench.

There has been a steady played settlement without major events before the fire.

Broke curse

Lucas Leiva is the player who has played the most games for Liverpool in the current squad. Yet it was tonight the first time the Brazilian played at Wembley.

In 2011, he received a severe knee injury that caused he missed three games at Wembley in 2012. And in the FA Cup against Aston Villa last year he injured in training just before the game. He regained confidence as defender of Jürgen Klopp today.

Liverpool were looking for their first trophy since ligacup victory in 2011/2012 season. Manchester City won on his side Premier League and League Cup 2013/14 season.

It was “Blue Moon” that rang out over Wembley and not “You’ll Never Walk Alone”.
