Jonevret: – Do not become like I was promised – VG

LONDON (AP) (Viking – Sogndal 4-2) Kjell Jonevret was lured to Stavanger to make the series champion from 1991 to a top team again. He did not feel the club has delivered as promised.

The plan was that Jonevret and club together would evolve to challenge for the championship in 2015, the Swede’s last contract year. I think the coach is no longer realistic.

– I was told that the economy should be in place a year ago, or indeed half years ago. From what I understand it can still take six months to one year before we can buy some good players. Then I think the board will reconsider the goals, he says to VG.

No new players

Chairman Geir Petter Solstad says that the economy has gone according to plan since 2012?

– Solstad has also said that we should accommodate an investment company and buy players. It said he was already two years ago, so maybe you should not believe everything you read in the papers, says Jonevret.

Towards Sogndal was probably under 5,000 spectators at Viking Stadium. Viking is far behind the gold, and also a bit behind in the battle for medals. In the transfer window this summer was Jonevret the only coach in the Premier League who did not get a single new player.

Not as envisaged

– It is no secret that both I and the entire group of players wanted new players, but what the hell do you do? We can not sell more players. We do not have more than 16 players now.

– Have their Viking was that you were promised?

– No, no. It’s not that. I dreamed of a full stadium and medal game again. It would take a year before the economy was arranged, but Viking would always be in a position to spend money if we needed players. That there’s not been. Just what is painful now, but it’s still fun to come to work, says Jonevret, which had the added fun the last half hour against Sogndal yesterday.

Led by local Kristoffer Haugen (20) joined Viking back from 1-2 at half time and won 4-2. Left-back Haugen is one of the bright spots that make Jonevret not look quite dark on the situation ahead of next year.

– Must be realists

– We were offered to sell him in the summer, but of course it is uninteresting. This group showed potential at the beginning of the year. Odd shows what you can achieve if you create a group that fits well. So we’re supposed not stop dreaming, but must also be realists. It would be a good time to invest in our. When we were good and the other teams were weaker. But I’m not the type that barks. I’m working on in silence, then so be it may be that another coach reaping the fruits of the work, says Jonevret.

He has one year left on his contract. Jonas Olsson in Sogndal has a few months. Olsson directed frustration toward the referees after the game yesterday.

– The decisions are too often against us. Before getting 3-2 Viking take a free kick while the ball rolls. It is never written about it. We are a club that never whine or feel sorry for ourselves, but now it’s too much. Last year we had 16 games without getting a penalty, we have been awarded a penalty this year either. Last year we complained and got a penalty in the match after. It can not be the way it should be, says Olsson.
