Ingebrigtsen promise to keep the suit on – VG

ZURICH / OSLO (Reuters) defending champion Henrik Ingebrigtsen (23) took the one on the European Championship final of 1500 meters. If he defends the title and take the gold Sunday, he promises to keep his clothes on.

Ingebrigtsen’s favorite before 1500 meter final Sunday. And should it be gold, he will not copy Mahiedine Mekhissi-Benabbad. The Frenchman was disqualified after throwing jersey after his victory in the 3000 meter steeplechase Thursday.

– I’ve Suit, so it gets a bit tricky, says Ingebrigsten VG with a smile.

Mekhissi-Benabbad was third in today’s qualifying, and Ingebrigtsen think he regrets jersey casting .

– He broke the rules and had red eyes start. It is evident that he regretted some of his lost head. I dare not think he’s going to pull off his shirt in the final. He has two steeplechase in the legs and I have control over him, telling Ingebrigtsen after qualifying victory.

– Frenchman may well not medal. But we do have control over him. We are never beaten him, says dad and coach Gjert Ingebrigtsen VG outside the Letzigrund Stadium.

Controlled into

Ingebrigtsen senior mildly critical of the way Henrik Ingebrigtsen – partially – conducted semi-final on. He thinks he “messed around a bit” and spent far too much effort.

– He took the lead from the start. It was okay. Then he took the lead again, several times. For unknown reasons. He felt well that he has enough power to take off. But he should not be wasting them, says Gjert Ingebrigtsen VG.

– But we see who’s boss. There is no doubt about it, he ascertained – and therefore believes the only EM gullhåp in Zurich.

23-year old from Sandnes got a good start in the Paths eight and walked right out in front. After a few hundred yards he put up a little further back, but seemed to have good control.

– It felt really good. I got the answers I wanted. I could not have run the way I did, if I had not been feeling well, says Henrik Ingebrigtsen in the pressure zone – where also the Swedish press flock to him.

They want to know what he thinks of the disk of the Mahiedine Mekhissi-Benabbad in the 3000 meter steeplechase. The Frenchman explained his neck-jerking that he would do as Sweden’s biggest sports hero, Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

With 200 meters left, Ingebrigtsen tried to take the lead again – that he managed to finish and won thus heat on 3.39.32. His pb is 3.31.46, which he set in Monaco.

200 meters before the finish, heading into the last turn “Stopped,” he bit out. He tried to go inside. It did not. In the press zone, he said in a cheerful tone – and shows gesturing – that he “should have swum over him.”

– I got his elbow in the chest. But it did not matter, he said the moment the fight against the nearest competitor in that it tightened up before the run.

Jakub Holus, which he admitted he had feared most, came to 6 . place at 3.39,64 and went to the finals at the best time (of four) for the four direct qualifiers from each heat.

– I went to the front early to avoid getting destroyed. I have such good shape inside that I can go up in the lead without it costing me a calorie and can control who can go past, Ingebrigtsen said with a smile to NRK.

– I had good control. Skull enoen have gone by, they had to have gone completely around me, he answers questions about it was plain sailing in the last 50 meters – when he placed the heat victory finish.

British Charlie Price finished two in the heat.

The final goes Sunday at 15.05.

– Can win

Little brother Philip Ingebrigtsen run in the second qualifying heat.

21-year-old was doing well long, but finally came to the eighth. Time 3.41.06 was not good enough for the final. He was disappointed in its run, but very optimistic about his brother.

– It was a little rod out of Philip. He made some mistakes towards the end. He carried no own decisions and fell asleep on the third round, says Gjert Ingebrigtsen – pointing out that the numbers two, three and four from the European Championship final in 2012 were eliminated in the semi-finals now.

– I think he can win the final. I had not seen so much of his race, but I think it will be good, says Philip the brother Henrik.

Henrik believes Filip “should overtaken Swiss” when it remained 250 meters.

– Beyond that he ran very well. He did not do so many mistakes, says Henrik Ingebrigtsen.

British Chris O’Hare took victory in the second heat ahead of Germany Homiyu Tesfaye.

Ingebrigtsen said in advance that he seems more threatening competitor rates than previously.

– They know what they go to. Are they with an elbow, they get a back right away, he said to VG Thursday.

– Before I was just “his sunglasses and Suit” that could win . Now I can scare them more. I proven I’m good and you win.
