Carlsen withdraws from the Chess Olympiad – VG

Tromsø (VG) Magnus Carlsen (23) has decided to drop the last day of the Chess Olympiad. He goes home to Bærum to rest – probably tonight.

Manager Espen Agdestein confirmed to VG that the decision was taken this morning. Carlsen even hinted that he was considering to resign after Tuesday’s decline, where he lost to Croatian Ivan Saric.

For weak opponent

– Magnus does not several Olympic games. He would get an opponent on a weak team from Malaysia with raiting around 2300 It would be as if Barcelona were to Sandefjord met in football, says Espen Agdestein.

– The Norwegian team needs Magnus to win against Malaysia. It is like shooting sparrows with cannons, but I’m a little surprised that he goes home. Typically, one at the location of the tournament is finished, even if it has no practical significance for the sporting about Magnus not there. Norway’s chances of a good location is sadly gone by the very serious loss to Croatia, so it is a bit disappointing Olympics for the first team, whether they win all parties to Malaysia, says NRK chess expert Torstein Bae VG.

– I might drop out, but it would be tedious to finish with such a bad experience. Both for me and the team. But I am completely empty, it is no joke to play, Carlsen himself said Tuesday.

There are spillefri in Chess Olympiad today. But Magnus Carlsen no rest. He asks the sponsor missions at Clarion Hotel Aurora in the afternoon.

– Magnus was tired after the game against Saric, but he’s fine now. He comes quickly, says Espen Agdestein.

Carlsen felt perfectly fine before the fight against Ivan Saric. All Board gap, with statsminiser Erna Solberg, who took the opening move for him disturbed him.

– I do not think it has anything to say that the Prime Minister is here, and it’s lots of people. It’s just nice. But there are other playing conditions than what I’m used to. There are more people who are literally fighting for the same air, says Carlsen.

Two surprising loss

He also lost very surprising for the German Arkady Naiditsch in the Olympics. Agdestein is not that the Norwegian wood champion is in an impasse.

– It would have been a good Olympics for anyone but Magnus says Agdestein.

There is a perception that shared by Bae, if one only looks at the results and performance rating, but he also believes that the Norwegian world tendon’s game has not been convincing.

– Before yesterday’s game, he was almost the one who had done the best of all in tournament, but there have been some unusual jagged games from Magnus’ side. It has sometimes been a little over stock and stone, Yet he managed to save himself out and won anyway, but yesterday he lost very quickly a party he was great favorite. Magnus has not gotten it to fall into the Olympics, says Bae to VG.

But he is not worried about what is to come later in the fall when he meets Vishy Anand to the second round for the World Championship title in Sochi.

It is with to make Magnus to the world’s best chess player is that he has a different concentration level than the other leading champions. This is not about knowledge, but there are a few thousand other players, lagsjakk and many other things outside. It does not seem like he was getting into really deep concentration as he needs to perform at its best. I feel that there really is no great cause for concern. When it is head to head against Vishy Anand, the other conditions, and when he goes into enough nestentransen that will do that he’s back on top. But this is a new challenge for him, says Bae.

24. August Carlsen traveling to St. Louis to play Sinquefield Cup.

– Carlsen has given up after a party where world champion got little or nothing. Carlsen lost on the way is almost more disappointing than the actual result, said VG chess expert Hans Arild Runde after yesterday’s disappointing defeat.
