Ødegaard volley on Gulbrandsens initiatives: – We have footballs in Norway too – VG

STAVANGER (AP) With Martin Ødegaard (16) on the team tries coach coaching staff to build a new Norwegian way of playing for the national team. None of them understands Solveig Gulbrandsens rumblings that Norway will never be good enough to lead the matches.

The Norwegian woman national profile Solveig Gulbrandsen announced following VG after a 3-1 victory over Ivory Coast in Canada Championships:

– I believe that it will extremely far to catch up with the nations who have summer all year. We have “cheroks” on our feet in six months. We have a completely different culture, and I do not think we can catch up with it, said Gulbrandsen – and added that she had faith in spite of Norwegian football has brought out the types that Martin Ødegaard.

Ødegaard We have all it takes to

– I will not say I agree. We have some disadvantages of being from Norway. I feel we have shown now that it is possible to be from Norway and be good at football. I do not feel we should use it as an excuse for why we can not be good. We have footballs, we have courts, we have all it takes, says Ødegaard told VG when he visits Norway’s Football Association talent camp for players born in 2001 in Stavanger on Wednesday.

– There are only exercising the right things and train well. It is the most important. Not how much snow there is here in the winter, smiling Ødegaard.

– So you think the Norwegian national team – both sexes – fine can control matches?

– Yes, I’m not afraid of anything, says national team player.

Høgmo: Restricts player development

It is not the coaching staff, which tentatively has tried to change way Norges lord national team has played since he took over as chief in autumn 2013. It has provided four wins, six draws and nine losses HØGMO first 19 matches.

– My clear strategy is that we must have aims to control games with the ball against the best possible opposition. Because it develops an attitude and skill registry that makes us better. That is my answer to that, says national team coach when VG confronts him with the initiative from his former super talent in time woman coach (1997-2000).

He uses just the time from women’s national team, who took Olympic gold in 2000 with Gulbrandsen on the team, as an example:

– Then we had a deliberate strategy by the desire to control his as often as possible by virtue of having the ball. If we did not succeed with it; by virtue of the way we worked on defense and counterattacks. There will always be different strategy against every single match for a national team. But we did not have ambition that we must steer matches in Norwegian football, we will have a constraint in the development of players, think Høgmo – which specifies that he has tremendous for Solveig Gulbrandsen as a footballer.

– For one who always said that you can be as good as you want in Norway, cf. the Solveig says, I am a little disappointed when she says it. There are no limitations in Norway how good they can be, if one makes good enough to contend with facilities and good coaches. But being good is demanding, says national team coach, also in place at NFF talent camp in Stavanger.

Hans Erik Ødegaard, Martins father and longtime coach, believe that if one thinks enough on development, both teams and individually, the skills become good enough to play the way you want.

– And I do not think you get it if you are simple and primitive. I think this was to resign very, says Ødegaard senior, who even held a keynote speech for 14-year-olds who have been selected for NFF collection this week.
