Bardet fought back after the defeat in the summary – Fædrelandsvennen

Ag2r rider was sixth in the three-week race last year and had great expectations for this year’s edition, but ruined overall ability to start. Bardet ended four minutes and 28 seconds behind before mountain stages in the Pyrenees began. On the 10th lap, the first with tough climbs, he ended up 13 minutes behind winner Chris Froome.

The last week has been rising shape. Bardet drove up from 22nd-place to 11th place in the next stages. Thursday he went also to the very top on the 18th lap and climbed up to 10th place overall.

24-year-old went alone from a large break up mountains Lacets the Montvernier. Stunt held all the way to goal and gave the Frenchman his first stage win in the race.

The large overall guns came together to the finish, despite attacks from Alberto Contador and Nairo Quintana on leader Chris Froome. (© NTB)
