Former president onto athletics management – VG

The management of the Norwegian Athletics Federation criticized by former President Anne Thidemann for their handling of the controversial “alcohol letter.”

– If they knew about it but did not do anything, then it is highly regrettable. If they saw it, but downplayed it, then it too seriously. This is a management responsibility, says Thidemann VG.

She talks about the increasingly widely publicized incident during the banquet by Team Championship in late June. In a letter – written by Grete Etholm and Kristin Sund Teigen on behalf of the athletes – described including a damp banquet where an athlete was so intoxicated that he could not take care of themselves, and it is claimed that none of the Norwegian managers took responsibility for concerned. President Svein Arne Hansen and Vice President Tore Hordnes named and criticized. The former has subsequently claimed that he was not full at the banquet, despite the fact that he in the letter are referred to as “clearly intoxicated.”

– This will drop athletes. That is why we have leaders, believes Thidemann, who was president from 1997 to 2001.

– This is a management responsibility – both during and after the incident, she continues.

– This is not a disciplinary action against them, he stated.

– But they are both criticized in the letter.

– Yes, and we will discuss, but the goal is to combat such incidents from happening again, and then all be there when the letter dealt with.

It reacts Thidemann on.

– On a general basis, I believe that in difficult cases, it is rarely a good solution that criticized parties – or Parties that are part of the criticism – is in treatment, she says.

– If they really want our opinion on this, so they should not put it to the day before a Norway championship. It is not ideal for us athletes, said Sund Teigen VG Monday.

Thidemann agree.

– Should associated have facilitated a meeting where letter printers could have been present?

– When athletes are so distinct in their reaction, so it would be perfectly reasonable that they respect them, grabbed the matter immediately. I would think that this has been a great burden for alarms and other affected athletes during the summer.
