Ingebrigtsen disappointed large – beaten by 12 seconds of the winner – NRK

– It is so easy to say this was my worst race ever. Already after one round I stick stiff, said Ingebrigtsen to Aftenbladet after the race.

24-year-old opened hard but could not finish. With the weak time 3: 38.35 was Ingebrigtsen number 14 in the final. No race weaker.

– It’s hard to say what is going wrong here, commented NRK athletics expert Vebjørn Rodal just after the finish.

The explanation is simple, says Ingebrigtsen.

– I got simply solid elements of lactic acid immediately after a round was run. It was terrible to shit like that out in front of so many people when everything was set for a rekordløp, explains 24-year-old.

One year ago personal best

Monaco are known to be 1500 meter runners’ mecca – a place where all that stands at the start are ready to make a fast fix.

Nine of the 14 who completed the 1500 Friday night set a personal record. For Ingebrigtsen was a completely different experience this year than last year.

Saturday is exactly one year since the largest athletics star set a personal best of 3: 31.46 on the same path.

– This was far below par, there is no doubt. It is a pity he did not have the day, says Rodal.

Ages third best time

One who definitely had the day was Kenyan Asbel Kiprop.

He won the 1500 box with time 3: 26.89 – the third best time in history.

In advance it was reported that Kiprop should be accompanied by one of his own rabbits to keep pace. The tactic succeeded to such a degree.

The competition was downright crushed in Monaco. Taoufik Makhloufi (Algeria) came in second with time 3: 28.75, while Abdelaati Iguider (Morocco) was trey – another four hundredths behind.

British Mo Farah ran to fourth place with time 3: 28.93 in a competitive where no less than nine runners set personal best.
