Embarrassing blunder ruined Hirsch slalom – Dagbladet.no

(Dagbladet): Henrik Kristoffersen took his tenth World Cup victory total in Schladming yesterday. Marcel Hirscher came on the square behind after a brilliant 2.omgang. 26-year-old ran up incredible 20 places in the final round. After 1.omgang was Hirscher entire 2.59 behind leader Felix Neureuther of Germany and 1.49 behind Henrik Kristoffersen.

After 1.omgang explained Hirscher why he was so far behind.

– One in the support had put my goggles wrong way. Glasses began to steam up after a few seconds. I saw nothing, but everyone can make mistakes. That happens, but it should of course not happen, says Hirscher to AP, courtesy of New York Times.

There was an apparent revenge Hirscher in 2.omgang. He had obvious best time, and ran nearly a second faster than Henrik Kristoffersen.

– I thought it was not possible. It is a brilliant result after what happened in 1.omgang. In addition, everything went in my favor in 2.omgang. The track got worse and I gave everything I had. I am grateful, says Hirscher.

Marcel Hirscher took the lead in the World Cup overall after yesterday space. Aksel Lund Svindal are notoriously out the rest of the season. Henrik Kristoffersen is in 3rd place, 98 points behind Hirscher.

This weekend it runs downhill and giant slalom in Garmisch Partenkirchen.
