Weng took his first championship victory in the sprint. Big surprise in third place – Dagbladet.no

(Dagbladet): In today’s skate sprint in Tromsø was a heavy trail for women. It took about three and a half minutes from start to finish on the track that is on scant 1.5 kilometers.

From the quarterfinals and semifinals to judge, so it beforehand out to be a real duel between pre favorites Heidi Weng and Ingvild Flugstad Østberg.

It should prove to vote.

Heidi Weng was very strongest in the sprint, beating Flugstad Østberg narrowly.

Surprise third

Silje Øyre SLINDE went all the final field long, with Weng and Flugstad Østberg just behind. On the run took the two experienced runners past. Yet it was bronze on SLINDE.

– It was really fun to go. Silje was very impressive. She went the whole field, so she deserved to get on the podium, said Weng told NRK.

Rough work pays off for SLINDE who was individual medal in NM earlier.

– It was cool. I am so glad I said SLINDE NRK.

Flugstad Ostberg were also happy with silver.

– I do not have as many championship medals I, so I’m taking with me a silver says Flugstad Ostberg told NRK.

Strong field

Finale Heat consisted of Heidi Weng, Ingvild Flugstad Ostberg, Silje Øyre SLINDE, Mari Eide, Thea Krokan Murud and Therese Johaug.

– This could been a World Cup final-heat, meant NRK cross country expert Fredrik Aukland.

Heidi Weng was fastest in the prologue, quarterfinals and semifinals of the ski-NMS second exercise. She was also the best for last. It was her first championship gold in individual sprint.

Therese Johaug went not opening distance yesterday, but stood on the starting line when the sprint went. Track profile matched her basically good. She took it to the final, but did not reach the top.

Maiken Caspersen Falla and Astrid Uhrenholdt Jacobsen did not sprint.
