Northug about doper: – I’m going to beat him knockout if he proves – Dagbladet.no

OBERSTDORF (Dagbladet): Østerikeren Johannes Dürr shocked cross country world when he climbed quickest of all the “monster ground” Alpe Cermis and went up in third place in the Tour de Ski for exactly two years ago.

Up the hill he passed including Petter Northug and said afterwards that he would “destroy Northug.”

Stupid. For Petter Northug has skihukommelse like an elephant, and never forgets anyone foolish enough to fling have shit to him.

When he yesterday was asked how he sees a comeback for Dürr, who was banned the day before Sochi Olympics began in 2014 for hefty EPO use, said Petter:

– Can I see him in the cross-country trail again I’m going to beat him knockout.

– I hardly think of him compete anywhere as long as I’m on the starting line. That he should not.

Neither the Austrians themselves, who are trying to erect a new layer of doping ruins from the 2000s, would rather not have Dürr back. But the question is whether they can deny him start license as long as the sentence has expired.

– He is banned for life from us, but doping verdict is the two years. I fear that he will appeal against the ban and demand to start license, says Austria’s sports director Markus Gandler.

Decent work day

Petter Northug had otherwise a decent birthday today. He spent 30 years-their day to halve Martin Johnsrud Sundby same subject lead in Tour de Ski to 45 seconds.

But Petter lacked necessary gear and lethal as the lead turned up the pace at the end. He was number nine on stage, ten seconds behind Alexey Poltoranin won.

Thus, it was no bonus seconds.

– I struggled UTI there today, but I saw others did too. Therefore I was able to hang with the tail of the field so long as I did, says Northug.

– All in all it was a decent day, says Northug, who after the race including was handed the birthday cake of his former rival Tobias Angerer.

He fastened itself partly because Martin Johnsrud Sundby for once had a bad day at work. Martin had to drop early, and was finally 56 seconds behind Poltoranin the goal.

It does not interpret Petter Northug as any sign that Martin has received “the hammer.”

– No, no. He had bad skis today. Then it’s hopeless. I had bad ski in Toblach once. When I lost four minutes. Martin lost under a minute today tells me that he is still in form. He’s going to win Tour’en says Northug.

Fighting for second place

Self is Northug determined to fight for second place. It is primarily a fight against Sergey Ustiugov, who after bonus seconds only and is four seconds behind Northug.

– It will be tough. He has shown steady and good form throughout Tour’en. But I’ll fight it as I can, says Petter Northug.

Also Finn Haagen Krogh is within range of a podium place, and would then definitely been in tetkampen if he had lost both (!) ski along.
