Bakeng buddy got cardiac arrest on the pitch – Adresseavisen

The Belgian footballer Gregory Mertens got cardiac arrest during a match for Lokeren reserves against Genk Monday.

24-year-old is now in an induced coma in hospital.

It was played around a quarters when 24-year-old collapsed on the pitch. The fight was stopped and the fans were asked to leave the stadium, writes Daily Mail.

The medical staff on site working to revive the former U21 international, before Mertens was taken to hospital after a half hour.

– Our defensive player immediately got medical attention teams Sporting Lokeren and KRC Genk. He was transferred to the hospital in Genk. Sporting Lokeren thoughts go to the family, and we hope for a positive outcome, it called on the club website.

Mertens joined Lokeren from Cercle Brugge last summer. In the latter club played Mertens together with the Norwegian Mushaga Bakenga, which is one of many who today send their thoughts to Mertens.
