Økland finished in Viking – Aftenposten

Arne Larsen ØKLAND days as director of Viking is over.

STAVANGER (Aftonbladet): After the Aftenbladet knows, Vikings club director Arne Larsen Økland decided to stop in Viking.

He will after our experiences give up the day.

Shortly after Aftonbladet revealed the news, sent Viking released a statement in which they confirmed that ØKLAND time at the club is over.

– We are in a new process, and then it must be allowed for people to decide whether they wish to participate further. I have great respect for Arnes decision, and I have great respect for the work he has done in Viking, says Chairman Charlie Gran Field.

Økland has served as club president in Viking for nearly three years. There have been three very demanding year both sporty and economical.

Økland was central to the last three-year plan Viking follow. The plan should end with that Viking was in balance economically and one of the top teams on the table.



– Demanding situation

– When I joined Viking, I promised that I would be in two or three years. I have been in three. It’s been challenging, but handsome year. I was very happy in Viking. Viking is also in a difficult situation. It’s okay that someone else can take on the tasks facing the club, says Økland

The plan has by no means been successful, either financially or in the field.

Aftenbladet know that Arne Larsen Økland experienced lately in Viking as very stressful and demanding.

It was the previous Board Geir Solstad spearheaded that employees Økland. They looked at the former football player, coach and pizza boss as the perfect choice to lead Viking through and out of the impasse they had ended up in.



Johannessen takes

Økland should have known what a blow as this board has not received renewed confidence by the General Meeting of the club in the winter.

The second major battle he experienced during the new Board’s last meeting last week. After that Aftenbladet knowledge, the plan and budget Økland had recommended in 2015 clubbed right down and exposed by the new board.

– There is disagreement on the way forward lies behind the decision that I took last week, says Økland to Aftenbladet.

All scheduled appointments and reinforcements sporty was put on hold until the new Board felt they had a full view of the situation in the team.

Henning Johannessen, CFO of Viking, takes over as acting CEO until a permanent solution is found. Johannessen was acting in the same position for a half in 2012, Bjarne Berntsen between the departure and Arne Larsen ØKLAND accession.

– I’ve done this before and are ready to set up and take a hold of a difficult situation .

Chairman Granfelt is concerned that Viking is a new era in the meeting.

– We will create a new and fresh Viking. It is time for new perspectives and thoughts. We will seek workable solutions for the club. We will reverse a negative trend into something new and positive. And sometimes it is like that something must be worse for it to be better, says Gran Field, adding that there is any pressure behind the resignation, but disagreement about Vikings on the process.
