Ferguson claims stopped Rooneys new super salaries – Dagbladet.no

Former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson refused to let Wayne Rooney earn more than himself when the tip should have a new contract in 2010.

The Ferguson writes in his new book “Leading”.

Rooney said at the time that he wanted to leave the club because of its lack of ambition, but made an about-face and signed a new five-year contract worth around two million (180,000 pound ) a week.

However, it was far less than he initially wanted, Ferguson writes.

The former manager told United’s owners and chief executive David Gill that nobody should earn more than him in the team.

– It was easy. We were simply agree that no player should get more salary than me, Ferguson writes.

The Scot also says that Everton did everything they could to avoid that great talent went to United in 2004.

– After we gave them our final offer, called Kenwright (Bill, the Everton manager) and gave the pipe to the Rooneys mother. She said to me that “you shall not steal my boy,” says the book.
