It would themselves but not in the sprint, and north man was beaten by both Australian Michael Matthews and ramūnas navardauskas from Lithuania.

– It is kjipere to become number two
It meant that it was the sour fourth place on the Norwegian.

– I tried to take second place, but I stiffened. With it’s kjipere being number two, said Team Katusha-star finish.

– I recognized early that this was going to be heavy and I struggled every round. The trail is harder than it looks, and the slopes came close at the end. I knew it was going to be difficult for me to hang out with in front. I tried to get me through so smoothly as possible. I managed to sit in the first large group, but I was a bit far behind and Edvald put a little in between there. It’s hard to get a grip on each other. Edvald neutralized those who went up to Sagan, but he was ahead. It was hard to get done something Sagan. He was strong.

Kristoff: – I stiffened at the end

Disappointed Boasson Hagen: – The plan was that I should not run
Edvald Boasson Hagen was sitting with the finals and ended up number 20.

MTN-QHUBEKA rider sat with Greg Van Avermaet just behind Sagan in the last two kilometers, but refused strange enough to help the Belgian fetching Sagan in the lead.

After the finish he explained why.

– I had very big medal opportunities but as captain says one should wait. I did not go. I could have helped and ripped, but I rather expected and hoped that Alex had more powers. He had well not really. That was it.

– Should you have gone too own chances?

– It is hard to say. We had a plan that I could sit at the wheel, and wait to take the sprint if I was there. Not to go. It did. Then it was like, explained rudsbygd no.

– Are you disappointed by the play?

– I had very big medal opportunities

– No , that was the plan. It is difficult to say what the outcome would have been anyway. Alex got the the end. Then Sagan already too far ahead.

Sagan wins for refugees
A fourth – and 20th place was still a strong result for a team that faced much hardship along the way.

Both Vegard Breen, Sven Erik Bystrøm and Lars Petter Nordhaug had to break along after several overturns, and Kristoff were in large periods conspicuously far behind in the main field.

On the last lap he found still be super powers, which also Boasson Hagen did in perhaps an even greater extent, but no one could do anything about Sagan.

After a season with 15 (!) elsewhere, there was naturally a relieved slovak that could wear that rainbow jersey.

– This is the biggest victory min. I am very happy. I sacrificed a lot over the past three weeks after the Vuelta. It’s incredible. I am very happy for this, he said in victory interview.

Then he explained somewhat surprising what gave him motivation along the way.

Sagan: – The situation in the world was my motivation

– I found motivation in the world. There are major problems in Europe and everything that happens there. I would say that it was great motivation for me. World population must change. In the coming years a lot can be different. Sport is great for people . We are motivation for people. The situation is very difficult, said Tinkoff-Saxo-Star.

troublesome Norwegian start
As usual in such championships got a lot less seasoned riders early allowed to form today’s breach.

Eight man broke Carlos Alzate (Colombia) Jesse Sergent (New Zealand), Ben King (USA), Sergej Ţvetcov (Romania), Andrei Khripta (Ukraine), Connor Dunne (Ireland), Ivan Stevic (Serbia) and Sung Baek Park (South Korea).

breakthrough soon had four to five minutes, but the Netherlands decided early on to take responsibility in field and ensured that the offensive octet never received a threatening weed.

The pace was not the highest from the start, but Norway had still not an ideal start.

Vegard Stake Laengen punctured early and had to change bikes while Vegard Breen gone down twice. The last crash, with six laps to go, made the Lotto Soudal rider fell too far behind the pace suddenly went sky in field.

Bystrøm: – We should have been further ahead

Maura-boy came not recover to the field and chose not long after to stand by.

– There were a couple well during the day. The first went early long zone, and then I beat both knees and elbow. And then I went down again with six laps to go. I rode therefore with little pain in knees all the way, and after the second crash I realized that it was over, he said to TV 2 after the finish.

Mass Roosevelt with four Norwegians involved
And bad luck continued for Norwegians – and many others, for the matter.

with 56 kilometers left went there a lot of overturning middle of the field, and all Norwegians were prevented. Most escaped without injuring themselves but Nordhoug settled sharply in the right thigh.

After the crash disappeared Nordhoug out of the picture, as did Bystrøm, which broke shortly thereafter.

– Girenas was broken, so I had no chance to get me up. It’s easy to say afterwards, but we should have been further ahead when crash went, said Team Katusha rider.

It made Kristoff only had two men with him on the last three rounds.

buff syvmannsgruppe
And one lap later came seven very creepy riders free.

Daniel Moreno, Michal Kwiatkowski, Elia Viviani, Bauke Mollema, Ian Stannard, Tom Boonen and Andrey Amador got a hatch and leave the pressure on the field behind.

Nest last time up Libby Hill got these visits by several other riders, and among these was thus Boasson Hagen.

The experiment was, however, neutralized, and with 11 kilometers left it was Tyler Farrar (USA) and Kanstantin Siutsou (Belarus) turn to try. The duo got just a few seconds and was taken just before the last slopes.

The decisive pressure
In Libby Hill went Zdenek Styb (Czech Republic) early, but classic specialist stiffened early.

When grip Sagan, van Avermaet and Boasson Hagen opportunity.

The trio got a good weed in the field, and with two kilometers left before Sagan it rip.

Boasson Hagen would not help the Belgian behind, and as a result they were taken in about 400 meters from goal. While Sagan went in goal with hands in the air, sprinted Kristoff about silver medal.

The Norwegian solidified too early and had to watch the medals go whistle.
